bruising or trich in rye grain jar

I had a fully colonized grain jar that was also pinning that I shook up recently. Can't tell if what I'm seeing is bruised mycelium and fruit bodies or trich. On the left side you can see the remains of a pin that has turned a lighter shade of the other green colors I'm seeing, but I'm still not sure.

You have a shit ton of bacteria in there. The green spots I really can't tell if it's mold or bruising. Both are very possible when there's lots of bacteria present. The bacteria alone would make that jar garbage IMO.

Do they look bacterial because of the moisture stuck to the glass? None of the jars seem to have excess moisture, unless the moisture you see there counts. If it makes any difference, these jars were inoculated with a grain slurry.

Kinda. But the thing that really is showing it is the weak, very unorganized, sporadic mycelial growth. Bacteria is much easier to see based off the myceliums reaction tbh.

Is that not typical? I only shook the jar a couple days ago. Never noticed any metabolites or anything. Prior to the shake the mycelium looked very healthy.

Well that's exactly how you tell if it's healthy lol. You shake it and watch what the recovery looks like. It should be thick, and solid, and well colonizing the exact same way as before by 24 hrs post shake. 48 hours max. In this case it is definitely bacteria.

Tossed it. On a separate note I was wondering if I put a few cups of dry grains into my stockpot to soak that had some leftover grains (less than a handful) from a previous soak and have not yet begun to soak them, are they safe to soak and PC? It's been sitting for around five days now. I was planning on soaking straight away but had to hold off.

I would just toss those. I don't like soaking more than 12-24 hours. 24 hrs is IMO pushing it.

They haven't been soaking. There were just a few grains leftover from a previous soak that got mixed in with new dry grains.

Regardless, they're very bacterial by now with much more endospore populations than before.

That was my concern. Thanks for the input.
