Growing the unique Summer Oyster

So I ordered and received the British variant of the M 2204 Pleurotus pulmonarius strain, aka Summer Oyster.
Isolated from the wild from an ancient woodland in Yorkshire, our unique Summer Oyster Mushroom has a superior flavour and texture that has been inherited from it’s wild origins.
P. pulmonarius hosts a large complex of varieties, offering cultivators a rich resource for new strains. Most of these strains fruit in culture. Over-incubated cultures can not be cut, even with the sharpest, surgical grade scalpel.

----
Firstly it will colonize and fruit at room temperature. So aggressive and fast it can colonize at 2°C.
An amazing choice other than pink. Yield potential, 100-200%.

Here is the dowel spawn, after arrival (left), and after 24 hours at 2°C (right).

Fast indeed, even at very low temperatures.

Kind of daft but apparently people like them

I was thinking they look a lot like King's, King Blue sounds more fitting. They have inherited a superior flavour and texture.
They also seem more meaty than Kings.

Very cool looking! Where did you get the strain? I'd love to give it a run.

P. pulmonarius hosts a large complex of varieties. Same strain different variation.

This unique British variant of Pleurotus pulmonarius, aka Summer oyster, is more hardy than I ever expected.

Capable of fully colonizing a substrate at a very low 2°C in a fridge, fully dark. This grain spawn is now nearly a solid block, and must be mixed.
Summer oyster is capable of an amazing 200% yield.
Soon available to USA and Canada.

Ok I've got 4 new microwave containers to start new grows. I will start with an aggressive Summer oyster grow.

These reach 110°C and 4-6 PSI. Which is plenty for starch free substrates. I can also use a clean syringe and seal without removing the lid.
A SAB or a 80L clear refuse bag must be used. Cook, cool, then add spawn to the top.
Can be used in a PC, PP5 rating.

I'll be interested to see the results. I dealt with this guy/operation a while back when I first started and it did not end well.
I now use 55kg of spawn a week and am always interested in something new I can grow oyster wise.
Check the lids of those containers are PP often the body is but the lid isn't.

The lids are also PP5, simply remove the blue plug, this way you get two holes. You can then PC at a higher pressure without issues with the lid.
When pressure has fully dropped, replace the plug. Check the lid, then close the PC and cool.

This British Summer oyster has just become my favorite oyster strain. Extremely hardy and very aggressive.

Colonized 75% again in 5 days, at 2°C. Personal nickname: King Blue.

Ok the containers work as intended. Both PC and Microwave.

They can hold roughly 800 - 1000g of substrate. Item model: F1170 - Size: 1.22 litres.

This unique variation is faster and thicker than Pink oyster, here is 12 hours fully dark at 22°C, using the T-Tek.

You will also find this strain is much more hardy than Pink, and yield is greater. Mushroom body's are meaty, and continue to grow after harvest.

I have updated both the T-Tek and Tea Slurry Tek with 40% tea, which is a suggested amount. Here is why, 24 hours:

The substrate is obviously being digested, growth as potent as that from the grain. Welcome to the T-Tek, the antibacterial, potent, grain free, does-it-all tek.
You can use a microwave or pressure cooker.
Enjoy, Ferather

Here is the Summer oyster, after 1.5 days on the updated T-Tek. It's not going to take long to fully colonize.

Should fully colonize within a week. No mold, and no signs of bacteria.

Glad you're having success with my culture. There are a number of reasons why my isolate is so vigorous:
1) It was cloned within 2 hours 2) I use an agar formula which I vary constantly blending different sources of nutrition for each batch ensuring that each formula is not duplicated 3) I maintain my culture bank as close to the original tissue sample as possible with multiple cultures stored under lab grade refrigeration. I cloned this mushroom 14 years ago but I still have slants which are at p9 4) I use liquid inoculation to produce all grain spawn
It is a delight to grow and also eat. The pigmentation in the cap varies with exposure to light and also responds to temperature as well. I've attached photos of it growing from beech sawdust in lower light and temperatures. The lilac tones develop stronger in temps. of around 20 deg.C.

Hi Solarity. That must've been quite a while ago when you had a bad experience with my spawn. Probably when I was going through the break-up with my partner who used to produce the grain spawn. And that didn't end well either! One of the major reasons why we split up (amongst other things). She just couldn't hack it, and wouldn't listen.
I am now in much better premises with a much better lab, and my spawn is consistantly high quality. You could always give me another try...
