Bike Tire Bruised Grains
    #23634635 - 09/11/16 02:25 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I took some rye grain jars, fully colonized.

Broke them up on a bike tire. Before I put them to coir/verm

Is it normal the mycelium turns a little blue after being shaken up so much?

(I'm worried about bacteria)
They smelled like fresh mushies.

Yea it'll bruise sometimes.. I've had it turn black almost

You'll know if it was contaminated after you fruit your substrate

Thanks for the quick reply.

I made three mini tubs.

Using a coir and verm.

I guess time will tell.

If I would have wait another minute the shook jar would have been blue in the photo.

Even with no extra room in the jar to help with shaking if your grain spawn is healthy it will break up easy

This is completely true. My best grows came from spawn that I could easily break up against my palm.

It's all good.

The Myc should recover after spawning rather quickly, and depending on the amount of spawn to bulk ratio you used, it'll take 10-15 days to colonize.
