I remember watching the planes hit on TV when I was in school, really weird, a lot of kids in my school had relatives who were in the buildings

I was 12, and it was fucked. Couldn't believe my eyes. I asked my bus driver if he had seen the news that morning. Visibly distraught, he said he had. Nothing happened that day. Time might as well have been standing still. A literal ripple in time, a plane flew through the paper wall of Uncle Sam.

I'll never forget that day, or the days that followed. It was surreal. The lack of planes in the air in particular was super weird. I was a junior in high school at the time. It effected my class strongly. Lots of people joined up to fight the terrorists. None came back the same, and many didn't come back at all.

To be serious though, I was really young at the time (I think in 4th grade?). My mom let me stay home from school that day so I thought that was kind of cool. I know that's an asshole thought to have, but I was in the fourth grade. It seemed fucked up, but I wasn't phased by it nearly as much as everyone else seemed to be. Maybe that was because of my age, but I dunno.

I was going through the enlistment process as well, around the second battle of Fallujah, that's when LSD came into my life and changed everything, ended up a pacifist for several years and bailed out of the process. 10 years later my brother is still in, crazy world.
911 was a travesty, not the worst event in history, but an act of senseless brutality which should have gone punished.

are you forgetting the 70+ years of American intervention that helped to lead up to that event?
not to mention the subsequent increase in American military presence in that region IMMEDIATELY after that event, that is still continuing to this day?

so then what's the excuse for us amping up military resources in that region after they supposedly attacked us? not to mention the dramatic increase in civilian deaths?

This is true, there is no excuse for those individuals to murder thousands of innocent civilians.
As far as our intervention in the M.E., its necessary to keep the Ottoman empire from reforming. It took the West a long time to tear them down and I don't see much reason to let them build back up.

Well, unfortunately, someone had to pay. If somebody kicks Uncle Sam in the balls, he's going to rain holy fire upon someone, anyone, in return. Can't look like a bitch with the world's eyes on you. I'm all for peace and love and unity but that's not how shit works atm.
