The Multirotor Beginner subforum on RC Groups has some very good info for beginners:
http://www.rcgroups.com/multirotor-beginner-940/
There's also a dude named Oscar Liang that runs a good blog about various MR topics:
https://oscarliang.com/
A bit more in-depth is a gentleman named Joshua Bardwell on Youtube. He produces some vids that boil down some fairly complicated topics into laymen's terms. His "How to Fly" series would be very useful for a new pilot.
It is a very fun and rewarding hobby, and if you find yourself the slightest bit interested, now is the time to get involved. The prices for equipment have dropped dramatically in the last year or so.

Do yourself a favour and learn to build one. It's not very difficult, and if you've built it yourself, then when you break something (and you will, lol), you will look at your machine as a collection of easily replacable $20 parts, instead of a broken multi-hundred dollar toy.
This Kiwi guy has lots of good vids on the subject:
It may seem a bit daunting at first, but the community is very helpful to new pilots, much like the mushcult community is with new growers.

The model I got was indeed the Phantom 4K version.
I still haven't flown it (had it for about a week now), as I've been really busy, although truthfully, one of those "busy" days I just ate a bunch of acid and climbed to the top of a mountain... fuck that was amazing, but didn't get to flying.
It's just sitting on my kitchen table now, like a golden trophy. I'm so excited to fly it, but I am nervous to crash it. I have a lot of experience flying single prop helicopters, and those are the ones that I crashed often, but those are super difficult to fly. So I am experienced with a remote, and these quad copters hold their position a lot better. So I'm hopeful that I can keep it out of the trees, or heaven forbid, a human being.
I am going to fly it this week, and then order a drone backpack with a few backup batteries so I can go in nature and get a couple of hours of fly time. I'm also thinking about getting a nice microphone to record nature sounds and lay that over the drone footage.
I really like the idea mentioned above about working with realtors. I've seen that before, but had forgotten about it.
I'll post some pictures and videos once I get it off the ground
