Pros/cons master spawn?

Seems people like their lc. Master spawn is easier for me. Just curious who has worked with master spawn and what you thought or learned. What did you use to transfer master spawn. Did you use a different substrate for your master spawn than your final fruiting spawn.

I've used master spawn, and it's always been the same spawn.
We use a technique called g2g or grain to grain. In the simplest terms, it just involves dumping a little bit of crumbled master spawn from the jar it colonized in to other jars you wish to colonize in a still air box.
Benefits? Lots really. It helps you expands your spawn 10 fold. It removes a couple of vectors of contamination to inoculating new jars, and since you are transferring a live culture, it's a helluva lot faster. We practice this method often here, it's a great way to stretch a few spores from starting out to potentially dozens or more of fruiting grows.

My preferred method is working with master spawn from agar, I go three generations, first gen is quart jars started from wedges, second gen is also quart jars from G2G and third gen is G2G to spawn bags. Recently though I had lost a batch of masters and needed to get caught up so I made LI from agar plates blended in a DIY eberbach(quart jar and blender accessory screwed on) and poured that directly into 8 lb. spawn bags and boom ended up with ample spawn bags in 100% in 7-8 days, so as I prefer masters I have found a new appreciation for LI.

Yes. I should have mentioned this. The only way to start a clean master is to inoculate from a very clean and healthy agar isolate. At least it should be.

I took a teaspoon of grains from my first ever jar, distributed them into 4 brand new jars. And now they're rolling. Didn't have to bust out the half empty spore syringe.
I used about half a syringe for my initial first 4 or 5 jars. Now that I've learned G2G, I'm gonna see how long I can go without using the syringe. If I just take a scoop from a colonized jar, I can do as many as I want, then still spawn the jar I pulled from.
So awesome.

You should never have to use a syringe again once you keep cultures and use those techniques, though I will have to say scooping is not the best way to utilize grain to grain, pouring it is far easier and faster.
