No it is not alright to put them straight in the jars. Desiccant cannot be used to absorb 9 times the weight of your final dry yield. Better if you dry them enough so the desiccant only has to absorb a few ml of water instead of ounces/pounds.
Though nobody I take seriously in the cultivation scene uses desiccant to dry so :shrug. If a dehydrator's in the budget you should be using one.

Thanks for shedding some light. What should I do with the fruit I already have in the jars? They're all at different stages of dehydration. If I go to say, walmart, and pick up a dehydrator tonight will it be fine to toss them all in there for a go? Or are they already troubled
Thanks ~japplethan
Get to Wallymart and get dehydrating them, the sooner the better. No, you haven't screwed them up.

I've never used a desiccant chamber but dehydrators are the way to go...
I used to use a screen to dry my fruits on until I had 5 bags worth of dried shrooms go moldy. You only make that mistake once...

I paid $30 for a 4 tray dehydrator at wallyland. It gets about 160 degrees. I use 1 tray and it gets an ounce dry in 4 hours. If I fill 2 or more trays , it takes longer. For my purposes it is perfect. I bought it for spices, as I am a gardener by trade and grow a plethora of herbs and spices.

How are you getting an ounce dry in 4 hours? That sounds a little too fast.

... Big fruits would take even longer. I would be thrilled to know how you came to that conclusion.

:retarded: (this needs an emoji for this terrible advice) You wasted a night oxidizing your fruits then give them an hour in dehydrator not long enough. Why didnt you just stick them in dehydrator over night

buhahaha because I have pets that likes to mess with them. I grow in my closet with so if dehydrated in there it gets to hot especially overnight. BTW walmart dehydrator isn't 160 deg. I used my thermo Lazer and lazed at the center with all the racks and top on. it reached Temps of 180 plus. that's a big difference from 160. and not long enough buhahaha apparently it is long enough for me me because my are cracker dry. so either my walmart dehydrator is on steroids or yours just sucks. why should I waist the energy it takes for my dehydrator when I can pick them put them by my fan in the same room and let them dry a most of the way and get the rest out with the dehydrator?

Or what you regard as cracker dry isn't cracker dry most likely funny how much more experienced growers disagree I got some on dehydrate now been 10 hours they'll definitely snap but that isn't cracker dry. They need to disintegrate when pressure is applied

It depends, are we taking a wet 1 oz drying down to ~3 g or 10 wet oz drying down to 1 oz. I can see a wet 1 oz drying down in 4 hours.

I'm talking about dry ounce. I don't measure wet yield because it's so temporary its already changed by the time I get them to the dehydrator.
Who puts 2-3g of mushrooms to dry in the dehydrator..?
