This may sound stupid butt here it goes after miserably failing at (5) lc's I decided to try and use the last bit of my spores on agar to just see if the syringe was viable now 1st I think I put too much spore solution in each dish causing many blooms 2nd there is alot of mycelium starting to show how do I diffrensiate mycelium from contams? on agar is there anything besides spider mold that could be mistaken as mycelium? These look fine to me but the 5 failing lc's scared me

So are you sayig steaming will only kill a certain kind of contams? I ask because i saw this
If you don't have a pressure cooker agar media can be sterilized by steam alone, steam your agar bottle like you would a PF jar for no less than 45m). Not having a PC/autoclave is no reason to avoid agar.

I have seen people cooking agar in an Erlenmyer flask on the stove. I think some of them used antibiotics. If i remember correctly there is a video on youtube where someone is cooking the agar on the stove or a heating plate.
//edit
found the video:
But I personally would never do agar this way. I feel a lot safer using an autoclave.

Why wold I transfer it asap wouldn't it be better to let it colonize a little more? I do plan on transferring. My plan is to inoc a bunch of premed pasty plates and do some tiger drop into wbs.soo that being said shouldn't I maximize the amount of mycelium to be used? By letting it grow?

Yes sir. Sounds like you know what you are doing
That being said spores are very dirty....its best to do at least one transfer before you do the tiger drop just to be SURE that its clean. Even if it looks clean there can be benign contams hiding in there....best to use an extra $0.10 of agar instead of wasting $1 of grain and all the cleaning involved. Thats my thinking anyways but i was growing commercially for a while.
By doing this you will see a 99.9% success rate in no time.
