5 year probation or jail time. Which would your prefer?

If you had the option of let's say 6 to 8 months in jail vs. 5 year probation, which would you honestly take?

Jail. Easy answer. I know a lot of career criminals/ex-jailbirds and it sounds pretty fuckin easy if you're good with people. Perhaps even good, if you look at it right, for that short a time. It's difficult to see the silver lining of life though.
I would fucking just smash exercise and reading and meditation and sleep. Could cruise <1yr I feel. A pal did 7 years and said he slept and 14 hours a day - 8pm -8am, and 2 hours in the afternoon, and just exercised and talked with people the rest. He was a proper 'geezer' though (dunno if you know what that means).
Fuck having them pry on you for 8 times as long. Fuck that all the way, having to report to some PO cunt and justify shit. Gimmie the hard times, but make it quick. Just like I'd choose for any pain that could not be avoided in this life.
Is that what you're looking at or something?

Jail time for sure.
I've been on probation for almost 7 years and it fucking sucks. Not because I have to go in or anything (I'm on "non-report" status), but because I've grown and I'm ready to move on with my life! Plus in many states like mine, if you get sentence 6 months (for example) you can get out in 3 if you don't get in any trouble while you're in there. That deal only applies to non-violent offenders though.
Also, I did three months one time just waiting for court.. It sucked, but the worst part was just not knowing when I was getting out. Time is easier when you have a release date.
Edit: For anyone considering heroin, don't. Still dealing with the repercussions and I haven't touched the shit in almost 6 years. Could have been worse though.. I'm just glad I'm still here to share my experience!

I can vouch for that. I mean, I would try almost anything once, but the warnings ex-users give are true.
I smoked some for the first time in nearly a year (had a short term addiction a couple of times in my life) a couple of weekends back and nearly OD'd. Had a great night experiencing what it's like truly living on the streets with an amazing human I met that night, but I nearly paid with my life, just to take a drug that teaches me nothing, and removes my spiritual connection with life.

Thanks for the responses. Will have to make a decision very soon. I was offered a plea and these are my options.

Keep us posted man, please. You got any idea what kinda jail you'd end up in? I mean I'd still take it no matter what, even if it meant getting beaten up weekly. Well providing it means they won't spend years putting restrictions on your name and expecting you to see fuckers after. Like, the 6-8 months (and hopefully you serve half) - would that be it - your 'debt to society' (cocksuckers) is fully paid? and you're a free man again (albeit a man with a record now)?

Everyone says jail time, but, it depends on what's going on in your life. If you've got a good, steady job or a family to take care of...probation would be the answer ...that is if you feel comfortable that you can meet the demands of staying drug free for that long.
Flip side is obvious...if you're a practicing addict / alcoholic and have no job to speak of...definitely do the time. I never had that choice....I always got jail time then probation.

Exactly. I would lose the plot I feel. I need psychedelics and/or weed at a bare minimum to deal with how fucking back to front the world is. I would seriously consider (wouldn't follow through if my parents were still alive mind) suicide if I couldn't take anything for five fucking years. Either that or flee and live my life as a man on the run.
Anything is better than having that privilege of being alive removed. Saying that, I do tend to be pretty extreme though. I wonder how many here could go without...
