Men or women of power 1

I had the unpleasant experience of seeing a newspaper (The Guardian) headline the last two days. I normally avoid them but they were right under my nose. Both concerned men in powerful positions.
I see what the presidential shit is doing over there. It's all shoved in your face about these people in control, whether it be phoney or not.
My question is; do you respect the people in control? It could be your boss, the head of your corporation or business, or the top policians/military, but do you think they are there for good reason and respect their opinions?
Or are you just one of those fucking anarchist bastards who should be locked away with the rest of the dissenters?

Only those deserving of respect. Generally people in positions of authority get there by doing things that make them undeserving.

Interesting point. I'm in the camp that does not respect unless it's earned, and staunch in the fact that NO ONE will ever tell me what to do. But if someone I really respect asks me for something, I will stay loyal to them to the death.
None the less, there seem to be many out there opposite to me; they respect those in authority simply because of the title they hold.
Is it just that they haven't considered the point you raise? Cause I firmly believe it - most people in positions of power I know are the most untrustworthy and disingenous. Whereas those at the bottom of the pyramid of power, with little or none (like the bin men I worked with for nearly a year when I did that job) seem to be the most honest, humble and most importantly IMO, REAL. Having worked my way up the ladders over the years to the point I'm around humans with massive political influence, I find they are often completely closed books, and will only acknowledge your existence if it is in their favour.
Which makes me want to stand up and yell loudly at them about how fucking insulting it is, personally. Hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes, but my paycheck depends on it.

great thread Jokeshop.
yes, i hate authority. it's like, i wanna be an individual, but i can't because the authority keeps bagging on me at every move i make, like assholes...well...asshole.
the community stagnates without the impulse of the individual; the impulse dies away without the sympathy of the community.

I have respect for small business owners but not for the leaders of crony capitalism which is well represented by the Republicans and Democrats of the worlds most influential Western country.

Not a single yes on the poll so far. I figured we'd have majority no's, but this place always surprises me.

Nah, I have very little respect for those in positions of power. Anarchist bastard here. Little I hate more than being told what to do by pretty much anyone.

I used to hate it, it was almost my pet hate after my #1 - people who are the opposite of generous with resource, whatever you would call that (I would normally say tight, but it might not work in your dialect). But I know myself too well by now to know that I'll either:
a. tell them to fuck off b. do the opposite c. not move an inch
So i don't get pissed any more, cause it's predictable, and the people around me know it too. In the old days, I probably would've tried to fight anyone who tried to tell me what to do. But that was some real dick move shit (I see in hindsight - #3 is the best IMO). I love people who can't be told shit though. Takes heart.
And to think, I used to think joining the army would do me good... I would almost certainly have spent a chunk of my service in the military jail, like a good friend of mine did in the 80's duing his.. whatever you call it.. service period of x years.

Of course all of the degenerates on the shroomery don't respect authority. That's part of why they're degenerates on the shroomery.

But you haven't voted Yes on the poll Webster!!
I knew someone would, but forgot about you. I think this is your calling in life; to always go against the natural ebb and flow of the shroomy vibe.
BTW - have you ever even taken shrooms? If not, would you one day?

No one should have power over people who feel powerless. When our people of power accept this, then we will truly function as a society.

I voted STAL because I respect some authority and but not all authority. Some authority figures don't deserve respect. I've taken shrooms around 10 times and acid over 20. Every trip was very introspective and revealing. It's part of what has made me a winner. I doubt I'll ever trip again though. It's a childish activity and I'm too busy to take part in it.

Reminds me of this:
Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power. --P.J. O'Rourke
And then this:
When the love of power is overcome by the power of love, this world will know peace. --Jimi Hendrix
I thank fuck that I hate holding positions of authority. For some reason I often end up in them, but I've known the type that do it for the power, and they are very dangerous people.
@Webster: you surprise me man. I wish I believed you'd answer me honestly when I ask this, but were any of your trips difficult? How many if so?
I only ask as my oldest friend is a little like you (albeit a much more mature version) - we have a kinda love/hate relationship, and as many times as we've done psychedelics, 8-9/10 times he doesn't get on with them.

Is that some way of covertly saying you're the yes man Pat? I'll be watching you.. either there's a normal person amongst us, or someone did it just to wind me up (I suspect the latter)

Just because someone is in a position of power, does not mean they're a good person and should be listened too.

No, as a general rule I don't have respect for authority
We all came crying and weeping out of someone's vagina, on this floating ball of rock and water in space...with that in mind, what gives any human being the right to dictate my life in any way? To have control over my life in any way?
I play the game with the pieces I was given, to a certain extent, so of course there is authority over me whether i like it or not, but people that try to flex power over me in an overbearing way can get fucked and expect resistance and my lack of cooperation, if not my full on rage if needed.
Respect is earned and not given willy nilly by me

I don't accept the idea that one person is "higher up" than another person unless consent is given. I think it's pretty much the underlying psychology of someone labeled "antisocial."

I'm not prejudice by nature. I see them as they appear, for example I could see a cop across the street and in my eyes he's got a clean record, he's got my respect by default, I don't know him, but then suppose that cop comes up to me and starts shoving me around for no reason, then I have data to collect and I can start making assumptions..

status does not automatically gain my respect.
I am always polite to anyone unless they are extremely impolite, rude, or hateful towards me for unjustified reasons in which case I can and will get a little 'fresh' before cutting them out of my life. I believe every human being deserves respect and dignity, for the most part, and as such I treat people above me with the same respect and dignity I do for everyone, I try to be sincere and candid, and I try to be a good employee regardless and do the best I can because that's for me, not for them.
A person in power who is doing a phenomenal job and is there because they earned it absolutely gets my respect. A person in power who can effectively lead, manage, and delegate but does not try to abuse their power and is there because they are passionate about what they do and want to do the best they can should have everyone's respect - the world needs leaders, and those are the people we want in power, they are also the one's who are less likely to uphold the nepotistic and corrupt culture of leadership as it currently exists.
