Over the recent long weekend I ate some acid with a really close friend and spent all dam day in the forest and we met some cool people at a swimming hole, it was really nice to see how many people (dozens) had showed up to enjoy the river and the forest. Granted there was litter everywhere cuz we are too entitled to clean up after ourselves but for a moment I had felt so excited at how much everyone was obviously enjoying that moment in time, in nature. Me and my tripping buddy sat there people watching and talking about some deep shit, we nearly slept under the stars we wanted to be in that forest so long, that river has been flowing long before I was born and will continue long after memory of me has all disappeared. The area is rich with game and is so gorgeous it looks like a fairytale and you just know people have been swimming there as long as people have lived in this area. For a solid 3 hours I didn't see a single person with their face in their cell phone. Everyone looked so happy.

Amazing. Thanks for sharing that man, I absolutely love reading things like that. Just hearing about people not being on their phones in the midst of nature is amazing, look what I saw when I looked, and then looked back again 10 mintues later up a beautiful mountain in Scotland:

I know about the magical feeling in nature whilst tripping, I've had so many. Me & my wife ate shrooms on xmas day once and broke into the grounds of this massive ex-royalty type estate near us. I swear to fuck if a bunch of faires flew out around us is wouldn't have surprised me, it was that magical:

(Pics don't do it justice of course)

Fucking tragic to hear about the litter though, it fucking breaks my heart, although I can't hate people for it as I was a litter bug at 18. I try and clear it if I see it these days though, making up a little at a time for the damage I once did. Funny how age does that to you. Older friends often mentioned that it does when I was much younger, but until you feel it it's hard to conceptualise the sadness it creates to see the perfection of nature shat on by humanity.

BTW, if you have, or ever have, more stories like that to share, please do. If for no one else but me. PM/thread/whatever. I could even call you next week if you feel like reliving a few - I got time to spare @ work & free international calls..

The problem is, it kinda is. As I'm sure Shroomism knows, getting a new shiny part for your pampered vehicle brings a lot of happiness - it's just very fleeting is all. I think the only reason it runs deep with my bikes is because of how many times we've been on the edge of death/danger+adrenaline together.

You must be doing a good job at sarcasm there, cause I normally can't spot it for shit. I know we've had our run ins akira, but I do respect your opinion. I often wish it was a lot more succinct and easy to understand though, for your views often elude me.

I just rebuilt the table and fence system on my contractor saw to turn it into a more legit Woodworker's tablesaw and I'm in love with it at the moment. Never going to be as good as a quality cabinet saw or anything but I've done an amazing job really pushing this thing to it's limit for accuracy. Maybe if I dropped 150~ on a true woodworking blade and dampener I could get it nearer to a quality cabinet saw but I dunno and that's a lot to drop on something that may not work. As it is I've got a deviation of far less than 1/64 of an inch off square, maybe as low as 1/100 or something. I've still got some adjustments and refinements to make to dial it just a bit more too (just hadn't made them yet because they weren't necessary at the moment I'm still working on some things that don't require ultimate precision).

I hadn't noticed until trying to move onto more precision stuff but the top to my saw was bowed in near the blade throwing off my cuts a considerable amount. Up to 1/16 off square or so, something had to be done about it and I didn't know if I was going to be able to get precise enough to make it better. I took my time on it (a few days) and am thoroughly impressed by the results. The fence it came with was only about 2 1/2 inches tall and clamping finger boards or anything to it was a pain in the ass. It wasn't a very solid fence, either so I really beefed it up. 4 inches tall, 3 inches wide and solid as hell. I also made the table about twice as large as stock, and have plans to add a foldable extension onto that for even more surface area when needed. Just don't need it yet so haven't done it (already have the materials for it).

I'd say that fits in with your description because I love the damn thing and no one else who even bothered to read this probably even sees what the big deal with it is  The trickiest part of it all is I didn't want to lose a lot in depth. If I had just used some 1/2 inch plywood for the top it wouldn't have been nearly as hard to get a nice flat surface. But I went with 1/4 inch (which is actually only 3/16 inch) for the top. There's a lot of shimming and leveling that had to be done (still some to do).

If I end up stuck with this saw for more than a year or two I'll be transferring the motor system out of it completely to a full on cabinet. I just did the top only for now to save some money since I don't actually need a full on cabinet.

When I was in high school I vandalized a sign at school and they made me clean up trash around the campus for an hour after school every day for a total of 20 hours. Normally I woulda said fuck that but they called the cops and had me arrested, the cops said they wouldn't charge me and have it go on my record if I just sucked it up and did the 20 hours of cleanup.

As any teenager would be I was pissed as hell and day 1 had the worst attitude, then randomly enough the custodian who followed me to keep me on track was a really nice dude who had a lot of interesting viewpoints on a lot of things and he made it actually fun. Because of him turning that into a positive experience for me I never littered again. It also opened my eyes to how much is in on the ground. You don't realize until you're the one cleaning it up.

Ever since then I made a point of cleaning up once or twice a summer my favourite places to think about shit. It feels good to make a difference like that even if it's small. I really should, we all should, be doing it more often. That swimming hole for instance you couldn't pay me to swim in, my poor dog had his little paws torn to shreds on the glass in the water. I mean littering is one thing but breaking glass in an area of such high traffic is just fucking rude and dangerous.

And thanks for that offer man I'm not usually one to talk on the phone but it's super nice of you to offer that. I'm more likely to shoot you a :pm: but I'll keep your offer in mind

Tell me about it...
Just got this from a good friend.. 2016 Golf R, 24k miles, 30k worth of mods already on it, pretty much to the teeth.
It's the exact car I wanted... and he modded it exactly how I would have... saving me a lot of time/money.
And I'm still CONSTANTLY thinking of more ways to further mod it. Have already spent waay more than I should have.

It's a sickness. But a good one

Amazing. I have no idea what you're talking about but your passion speaks volumes. I met a guy 2 weekends ago that built some mad... what would you call it.. alter/mantle in a massive house in America recently. Out of one of the best woods going apparently. African something; can't recall, was tripping hard on mescal & 2C-B. But the pics were mindblowing. The level of accuracy you mention is what reminded me.

I mean, I've done a bit of woodwork in my time, built the bed for my wife & I. Learned joints at a job I had for a short time. I was ok, but inaccurate. I guess it takes years to learn that accuracy you talk of. I can try my hand at most things but wood kinda pisses me off for some reason. It has the grain which is random, and needs to be worked with. Metal is much better to work with for me.

That's a bitch man. I worked up about £28k in my 20's cause of that attitude:

Built from standard, but every area modified to fuck. I still have to resist, but having more of a respect for money after getting into, and out of, that much debt makes it easier. I.e - a manifold for the Duc would be £7-800. That wouldn't have stopped me once, but now it does. £700 ($930) is a lot. I still want Ohlins and Brembo though, I guess that'll never change. As a petrolhead, sure you know how it gets in the blood, in your very soul.

But to resist is so good for us. Still gotta admire your new car though. Don't think I coould ever have bought pre-modified. Probably now though if I was still into cars as I don't have time to do the work myself anymore.

What's the power figures & 0-60 on that?

Love the corner balanced stance, it's funny to think how most people have no idea how important those coilovers are perfectly set to balance the vehicle. I paid a pro to set mine, camber, castor, toe, etc:

Yeah I kinda figure not many people would understand what all I'm saying or it's importance. For general cabinetry and stuff, the accuracy isn't super important. I mean you don't want to see obvious gaps but they're easy to hide or compensate for. For a lot of the stuff I want to do though, you need precision that is hard to measure without special tools (meaning more than just a ruler or tape measure). To get that precise some of the shimming I did was done with index cards and paper because I didn't feel like breaking out the hand plane (it needs tuning) to make shavings of wood thin enough to shim it up.

I love what I do though. Well a lot of it anyways. Like anything else there are aspects that have to be done that I really don't care for. I'm really not a fan of sanding for instance. It's just a chore to me.

As for the African wood, there are several that it could be. Wood sources have been drying up for quite a long time. A lot of the exotic woods take a long time to reach maturity and some of them don't even become very large trees to begin with. I think those two aspects are especially relevant to African woods. Some of the exotic woods out there are getting so rare that it's difficult or nearly impossible to find as actual lumber because they're mostly just turned into veneers. I can't recall it off the top of my head but my local hardwood dealer just got some of the lumber not too long ago and I started looking into it.

Do you do that for a living then slip, or are you a self-taught hobby expert, like myself?

@Sonic - I dunno if you can call music material any more - fuck, there's like 32 billion songs in the cloud or something. Certainly not something one can touch, as soul stirring as the stuff is (I would have to exit this life if it were outlawed for example, I listen all day). The thought makes me miss tapes and CD's though..

BTW - if I seem unusually chatty tonight, it's probably cause I got some fire coke for the weekend, and had to sample a little before bed today of course. Just in case anyone thought I was acting out of character. Probably not, people keep asking me if I'll ever stop posting, I probably talk too much as it is...

Trees and plants are indeed very powerful presences that deserve to be preserved, but I would'nt consider them material objects in that they're alive and have resident genii.  Material objects i have which one could say i worship are certainly my stuffed seals and pandas, xj-s, some artwork, ritual tools, pistol, and some books.

Oh yeah, trees/plants = definitely NOT material, rather, a living thing. There was a large plant strewn across the road yesterday when I got to work, dunno what it was, but it had been abused, so I stopped, re-potted it and tried to hide it somewhere some so the Thursday night, pissed blue suit city wanker wouldn't just kick it over:

Doubt it'll be there tomorrow, but heartbreaking to think it's probably gonna end up in some bin.

Stuffed seals and pandas - like taxidermy? I used to stare through a specialist shop window near a pals house every now and then, fascinating stuff if that's what you mean. XJ-S = Jaguar?
