WBS too dry?

It's been over 2 weeks, and the mycelia appears to be colonizing slower than the start. The first picture shows basically right after shaking. One side of the jar is fully colonized while moving to the other side, but you can see a few seeds with what appear to be dried out mycelia. Does it look bad or am I just trippin...

It does not look like it was shaken. Maybe you filled the jar too much. (that's a really cute jar btw)

Haha thank you. I wanted to minimize colonization times so I could make a small batch of GLC for LC.
Anyways, there's about an inch or more of space towards the top, so when I shake it all the uncolonized WBS that you see shakes like crazy, but the mycelia sticks to the side.
Any idea what the dry looking mycelia on the seeds is? Theres not much of it, but enough to question it.

The grains look like they were prepped a bit on the wet side. It looks a bit starchy as well, try to use rye grains for your next batch. I highly recommend them. It's nice to have the same grains throughout that are perfectly hydrated and non-starchy
The jar should finish up just fine tho, just give it a hard shake to distribute the mycelium and it should be fully colonized in less than a week.

Sweet. I appreciate the post. I have been eyeballing rye. I will go ahead and purchase some to inoculate with the LC. The WBS I have seems to be stubborn... I'm not using brands I've seen here, but I did get it at PetSmart.
I have shooken but the distribution is only of the non colonized WBS. Should I hit it on something? I don't want to mess up my first successful go. Ha

Dry looking mycelia happens when you shake the jar, it will recover soon. But moving the uncolonized grains won't help faster colonization that much. Try hitting the jar against something, most people use bike tires or duct tape, I use a sleeping pad like this one:

Just beat it really hard against something similar to these and mycelium will break and mix up evenly and will fully colonize in no time. When I have mycelium stuck to the side of the jar, I find it useful to beat the opposite side of the jar against the surface to break it.

Thanks so much!!! I'm off to do that right now.

No problem .) Glad to be of help.
Just don't shake it more than once until colonization.
I myself have similar small jars that are colonizing that I will use for GLC, I'm really curious about results. It seems to be such a good idea.

I like it. Don't need a lot of GLC and all I want is fast colonization. Hadn't really seen anyone doing this exact thing, but why not.
