Need help ASAP with Gnats in Substrate
    #23621953 - 09/07/16 01:03 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

It started off with just a few gnats in my tub, but now am seeing more of them daily.  Need to control this problem ASAP before it gets worse.  Ive Read on this forum, that some people remove Gnats using "Nag Champa" Incense.  They light an incense stick in the middle of there tub, and supposedly the smoke suffocates the gnats and forces them out.

Question, may any incense be used?  Am assuming so, be just wanted to check and make sure, before heading to the store to buy some.  I also read that a small cup of beer in the monotub will help with gnats ?

Please, any recommendations and suggestions to help with my concern.

Thanks

If you're going to try it, I'd personally go for natural incense. Some of the cheap ones you can pick up at the store are pretty noxious, burn with black smoke, leave a lot of residue and definitely seem suffocating, even to people.

I don't see why normal smoke couldn't be used to achieve the same thing, but I don't think it'd kill all the larvae or eggs. Maybe consider using a cleaned vacuum attachment to suck up the adults and stringing a yellow sticky card in there. Not sure if BTi could be used on mushroom mycelium, but it may also be an option.
