building frustration.....

just harvested a nice 10lbs of mixed phoenix and gold oysters, want to get out and sell them, at $10.00/lb, this morning but i have a shitty farm job i have go to instead, which of course wont be done until evening when restaurants are usually too busy to see samples and buy....and this goes on all week, i'm really getting frustrated. Some of my friends could help me out but "can't see any money in it" so don't want to help out, I asked my job if i could take a day a week for mushrooms and they said no, I'm getting really frustrated. I have to get a repeat cycle timer which will take a month to ship from some place in the US if i order off of ebay, i'm getting rreaaallly frustrated.....sorry, just had to vent...there is more but not mushroom related so no need to talk about that. anyways the more and more my employment collides with mushrooms sales the more and more the frustration builds....going, going,

Maybe grow something else than oysters and try to sell dried shrooms?

That sucks man, I know the frustration all too well and it's something you have to deal with when you have a full-time job but also aspire to own your own business. The system is designed to make people employees instead of bosses, so you just have to use whatever extra time you have to get your own stuff done. That means cutting alot of people off and not making time for them. It's reality, and the decision is only yours to make.
You could also try to get a job that gives you vacation benefits, like a corporate job, even if it's just a custodian or something, they still get the same benefits. I guess that's if you have corporate/large companies around you, if not then you're basically stuck with option 1.

Sorry to hear, anth. If at all possible, quit. I quit my job 8 months ago that I had been in for ten years. Management wasn't readonable and I could see my future there...shitty. If I quit I had no idea what the future had in store. Just got a new job doing the same thing as before with an enormous raise and room to grow. Downside is I gotta put mushroom growing back to strictly hobby but in your case it might provide you that extra time necessary to build your business. Fortune favors the bold.

Fortune mostly favors the prepared, those who have a plan and $ saved up. You don't have to be married to a plan but it's best to have one.

I agree with Drake. I worked my regular full time job until I had all of my equipment purchased/built, saved some money, and then scaled back to part time once I had everything I needed. I'm just in the process now of doing full scale runs, but I can tell you that there aren't enough hours in the day to do both a full time job and full time mushrooms if your job isn't flexible. It took me a year to do everything I needed to start, but in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't rush into it without a solid plan.

I'm with shroombasa on this. It sucks man- my job takes 50-70 hours a week and is exhausting so I've had shroom projects back up. Spawn I let sit too long, all the materials to build a flowhood but no time to do so... It is really frustrating. But bit by bit I am getting more equipment, and most importantly: more knowledge. Scale up really slowly. Send out feelers. Work at it incrementally until you are ready on all fronts to make the switch. And keep your ear to the ground for another job that will still provide for you while finding the time to put more into mycology. By the time everything lines up- you'll be able to blitzkreig the scene and have all the knowledge and technique to dominate your area.
Best of luck mate.
