You can but its not a good fit. It says not to put breakable glass in there. For that money the presto 23qt wins everytime

No an instapot is not useful for us at all. It's a cooking appliance for bored housewives that need to drop 500$ at Target every week.

Look on Facebook online yard sales. Picked up a 16qt presto from the 70s for $25. Thing is top quality, thick aluminum unlike the thin aluminum modern ones.

They get to about 12 PSI, I've used it successfully a few times now just ran it a bit longer than whatever the tek calls for.....the nice thing is being electric you can bring it anywhere....like say in your garage where nosey people don't ask questions....and you can turn it on and leave, auto shut off and depressurize is a nice feature.
And yes my wife is bored and loves dropping money on shit we don't need, so fair comment

I've borrowed a friend's Instapot but figured I should check here first to see if it's a waste of time.
I already loaded the jars with a verm and ground rye seed mix... so that, iirc, might need a higher psi to sterilize compared to the BRF.
I'm hoping that 12psi (which sounds like is the max for an instapot) for an hour will be enough to sterilize these jars.
In any event, the wife gave me permission to grow in the condo after we decrim'd fungus here in Denver , so I'm growing my first cakes in probably 16 years

I use a GoWise 14 quart electric canner to do my agar and LCs. If you are reusing jars, just get them really clean before you use an electric PC, I don't use tap water, store bought spring/distilled water. A lot of these things vary greatly in pressure, mine gets up to 11.5 and then turns the heating coil off, so it'll go to 6-7 before riding back up. Out of 100+ dishes I've only had a few contams.
The 14qt model can hold eight pint jars, perfect for a few sleeves of dishes and a some LC jars.

Head down to the store, buy some butterfly clips, dub tub your jars, forget about them, move to Kensington, buy a boat you only ever keep in your driveway, become a Pinterest administrator, sell dollar store mugs with rhinestones hot glued all over them.

Pressure cookers are the way to go. That said, I'm cheap and have successfully used my Instant Pot on about six different occasions, none of which had any contamination. I run it for 1.5-2 hours.
-------------------- Sonic's "I'll buy a pressure cooker someday" Instant Pot times and settings:
- Popping Corn Rapid Re-hydration - Half fill all containers with corn. Empty into Instant Pot. Cover with water. Run 30 minutes on PC. Release, remove, dry.
- Wheat/Rye Berry Soak Re-hydration - Half fill all containers with grain. Empty in pot with water. Soak for 6-12 hours, air dry until surface is completely dry.
- Grain Jar Sterilization - Run 2 - 2.5 hrs on PC
- PastyPlates, MEA Formulation- Run 45 minutes on PC
- LME Liquid Culture - Run 45 minutes on PC

Same. I've had pretty good success with my electric PC and wbs if I total it out to 2 hours, but it always succumbs to contams at some point. I like to think the 15PSI on a flamed stove is for longevity, not just the initial colonization.
I just had both of my shoeboxes go moldy, but all of my sweater boxes are taking off already.
