Hey guys I'm making this as a thread to keep up with my own grafting progress Feel free to join in and post your own pictures all I ask is that they are current, not super old plants you don't have anymore
I took the tip off a bridgesii seedling and grafted it to PC, here it was the day of
Here's it today, pretty sure it took.
Pc still has no roots, I mist it at night hoping to get it some water
I also did 3 bridgesii seedlings grafts to peres as well as a couple lophs the day of
8/30 taken out of humidity today, lost 2 of the bridgesii grafts but stuck them back in humidity I think they will root maybe

Nice photo dump r3dz. All my current grafts other than my earliest 2 are slower than molasses in ju-ly it seems. All basically just staying the size they're at, no growth or shrinkage.
Looks like my peres mother is trying to tell me to cut more grafting stock eh?
That one branch broke off under its own weight and just re sprouted from the rough break. Hearty plants they are.
A paper order sheet goes out tomorrow for a decently sized seed order so I'll try some more once it comes in.

My grafting has been pretty minimal so far so I can't even keep up with the damned thing!
So far the seeds for me are bridge x SS01 and SS02 x BBG but I haven't totalled it up yet cause I might add on before I send it off. I don't have any room left for more cactus, and probably moving provinces in spring but I just can't stop!

I am no good at grafting - in fact I suck at it. But I do know that one of the prerequisite conditions for success is that both stock and scion should be in active growth.

Just quoting what ALL the experts say - if you think it doesn´t matter then I am sure you know better.

You can graft to unrooted stocks without issues and there may be new growth before the roots even sprout depending on a few factors. I like to graft onto unrooted stock but only when large columnar not small pereskiopsis or similar stocks.
You shouldn't graft during winter if your area causes plants to go dormant. Some area like mine have year round growth.
Now active/new growth has more supple flesh allowing for better graft union and old growth may fail due to being too woody.

Thanks for that dude!
This was a PC that got root rot a few weeks ago, I cut it and let it callous I noticed one of my baby lophs was rotting so I performed surgery and attempted to graft the loph to the pc that didn't work out so I just resliced the PC and stuck that bridgesii seedling tip onto it.
definitely not the best time of year but I'm likely to put that graft under a light for the winter like a savage.

Pulling up a chair. I just grafted a loph onto a bridgesii a few days ago, but once my new pereskiopsis cuttings root I'm going to graft a little trichocereus seedling(no idea what kind if came from a mixed bag of seeds) onto one of them.
Shit I need to post more in here...

That´s what I was saying - I never mentioned roots - but the expert opinion is that the chances of success are greater if both parts are growing and the juices are flowing - makes sense to me.
But what you do probably depends oh how important it is. If you are grafting Loph seedlings and you have trays full of them then you can just slap them on anyhow.
But I have a very rare and expensive Toumeya papyracantha cristate which I am intending to regraft in the near future - both stock and scion will be in full growth - I want no chance of that failing.
