Soggy cakes??
    #23618094 - 09/06/16 12:44 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I've had 7 brf cakes in the fruiting chamber for like 2 months and now and I got about 5 flushes from all of them and probably harvested about 200 grams fresh off them by now. Recently tho, I h harvested the last flush a few days ago and since then my some of my cakes have become very soft and spongy around the center and some have acquired an orange colouration in a few spots and I just wanna know what it means when they've gone soft. Are they ready to be tossed and if so, is there any way to get anymore from them??

Thanks in advance.

I would toss yes. Should get 50-70 wet per cake in a SGFC with healthy cakes

I didn't use SGFC and no perlite so I'm happy with the results even though it's not the best.

Do you think I could bury the cakes in a forest, could that possibly lead to the spreading of the mycelium to some dead leaves or something and produce more fruits??

IMO this is how everybody should dispose of contaminated or spent cakes/sub.  I do everytime.

I personally would stick to no more than 3 flushes per cake.
dig yourself a hole crumble the cakes and place some dry verm over the top. water once a day. you should get another decent flush. not to mention start a network in that spot for the myclium net's lifetime.

Why limit yourself to only 3 flushes?
Do the shrooms become weaker as you harvest or something?

the chances of contam becomes greater. another thing you could also do is save up all your aborts and used cakes. dry the mycelium on the cake and the aborts. grind them up in a blender or coffee grinder. then make them into CoG.

lol I agree. by me saying make it into CoG I'm talking about make sure you myc on the cake is still nice and white no contam. dry it out and then make the CoG

*edit* to add on I personally just do the aborts and put my cakes/spent bulk in a 5gal bucket with air tight lid (making sure I did staralize the bucket before hand.) and put all in the back woods =P

even a whole cake has so little actives in it, I'm not even sure the amount measured are even confirmed or still debatable, just taking a chunk of myc does nothing.

Consider all the contams in the cake that your eyes aren't trained to see yet, and ask yourself if you really want to drink brown rice, verm, and mold extract.

Not many people will want to seriously contribute to a conversation once it devolves into making cake extracts.  This forum is about cultivation.

funny how most of those things never work out IRL.. sorry, but fiddling with spent cakes isn't the way to ingest actives. you wont feel shit. well maybe shit but not in the good way

I've tried the spent cake ingestion whatever the fuck you want to call it (a long time ago, that is), and take my word for it,

I would definitely not try to consume spent cakes. The concept just sounds disgusting and it's just really sketchy.

In the end I just buried all my cakes in a hole I found under a tree and covered the hole with dirt and leaves.

R.I.P cakes
