This pumpkin will be carved by my niblings for Halloween, then promptly smashed by me on November 1. It will be left for squirrels or whatever else wants to eat it, or it will rot and join the dirt again.

This is my only real reservation with using urine as a fertiliser. I buy coarse salt which I use to kill weeds on my patio, which it does most effectively. So I am never going to give my cacti a substance which contains a known herbicide. OK - you wanna do it fine - but I will NEVER be persuaded it is a good idea.

Sodium and chloride are necessary micronutrients for optimal soil health. Think of it like water. Without it, death. Too much of it, death.
A little, like in urine, isn't gonna do the same thing as say pouring rock salt on the ground. This is the fourth year for 'pee pumpkins' planted right off the porch in the same exact spot, and they keep getting bigger every year.

I have now stopped repeating myself ad infinitum - or should that be ad nauseam.

Don't worry, that kelp meal will give your soil some salt.
Some people actually apply sea salt or sea water to their soil and by foliar application.
And....
Quote:
The notion that Roman forces then sowed the city with salt to ensure that nothing would grow there again is almost certainly a 19th-century invention.[17] Contemporary accounts show that the land surrounding Carthage was declared ager publicus and that it was shared between local farmers, and Roman and Italian ones. North Africa soon became a vital source of grain for the Romans.

See how i did that there. And no one gets offended.

Discussion isn't bickering. In fact, open discourse is how most people learn new and novel things.
I have a dry personality. If others perceive that incorrectly that's just the way it goes.
Take it or leave it, makes no matter to me.

I'm allergic to ignorance.
Sorry. (Not really, though)

Well, again, I don't start the sophomoric name calling and such. If the mods, hint hint, would do their responsibility and keep people who do a bit more in check, I think the EBG would be a better place. When someone comes in and drops some obviously erroneous claims, I'm gonna chime in and dispute it. If they resort to name calling and get the 'my dick is biggest here' attitude, I'm not gonna go away, I'm gonna keep disputing their erroneous claim. I think this thread hasn't devolved to that level yet, surprisingly.
I'm gonna use some of Fly's claims and some from other members that I can recall right now without searching. I don't have any qualm with fly. I'm glad he's started using kelp. Hopefully he notices the improvement that it will give his garden. Maybe he'll even try some other of my idiotic suggestions. Roman's salted the earth? Most probably not. Peat's bad for trichos. Uh, nope. 'Salt' is bad for soil. Not exactly. Kelp will burn your plants. I've tried, trust me I have tried to burn a plant with kelp and I never have been successful at it. . . . . . . . .
That's the joy of forums . . . new ideas, discussion, debate, critical thinking, research, and different perspectives, knowledge, ideas, and experiences. I've learned so much from arguing with people online in relation to growing stuff. Once I swallow my pride and research into it, I may try a test out or just completely change how/what I do. I can back most anything I say with peer reviewed, academically accredited, scientific research studies. Sorry if a concept may be new to you, challenge what you 'know', and you feel like calling me an idiot for saying it, but that doesn't change anything. None of us are special. None of us are a beautiful and unique snowflake. We are all the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world.
Sodium and chloride are NOT bad for soil unless it is given in extreme excess.
I'm just gonna end with this and go watch some football.
