Alien Substrate Formula, temperature & moisture

As you could tell by looking at my thread “Why so long to colonize PF jars, and what to do about it?”, things could have gone better.
So, back to the drawing board. Obviously, temperature is a big issue.
But I think it might be an additional improvement be to switch to Alien Substrate Formula. Comments?
Also, I thought the first go-round seemed just a tad dry. How would you describe the “feel” of the correct moisture content?

You don't seem to be in too much of a hurry, so I would https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20846749#20846749 if I were you.

That alien link is 13 years old, so no, don't do that. And as for moisture, correct feels a little dry.

It's true that I'm not in a tearing hurry, but that doesn't mean that at this point at least, I want to invest enough time to get into agar.
Thinking back on it, I think it was Alien Tek, or something much like it, that produced such good results years ago. It might have been a little longer than 13 years ago though, maybe as much as 19 years ago. But I'm sure it included quinoa, and I'm pretty sure also flax seed. It seems to me it may have also included oyster shell to correct the pH? What IS the correct pH, BTW?
I think the problem with brown rice flour and vermiculite may have been that it wasn't porous and aerated enough.
Anyway, what PF tek would YOU suggest as an improvement on brown rice flour and vermiculite?

brf cakes are plenty nutritious enough, if you had problems with the TEK you may have gotten a dirty syringe or gotten bacteria in your grows.
most those special ingredient/recipe TEKs are just BS written by people who wants their name known.. "alien sub" yet there are no aliens in the recipe..."hippie cakes" yet he was no hippie but a scamming stealing SOB..

I had nothing but quick success years ago, but in reviewing how to go about it this time, since it had been a long time and my memory was vague about it, I used the temperature of about 86°F that was cited here at the Shroomery. But about 8 weeks AFTER I started up this time, the Shroomery changed the recommended temperature, and everyone started saying "No, that's old, wrong information". So I'll correct the temperature, but it seems to me it would be a good idea to also go back to the recipe that worked so well last time back in the day, and that's what I was asking about.

17 to 12 years ago I was acquainted with a tek that used quinoa and, I believe, flax seed. I believe it also used a bit of oyster shell to correct pH.
Thanks very much for these links; I'll check them out carefully.

Correct moisture content by feel is you can break it up with hands, it rolls off the fingers and slowly falls apart but looks moist. My substrate can be tricky with moisture content but you have to add water to the description I described. Takes some testing to get it correct. Go a little dry at first, etc.
