Computer virus problem...
    #23610504 - 09/04/16 08:01 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Everytime I want to click on a link, there;s a new tab in my google chrome that opens up with ads and shit. Very annoying.

I adjusted settings on the adblock... nothing
I reinstalled chrome.... nothing.

There's nothing I don't recognize on my install/uninstall list.

I'm currently doing a scan with windows defender (it's probably useless)...

Any ideas???

I usually just end up reinstalling the OS if this happens, more straightforward than trying a bunch of different tools that may not work anyway.

Like reinstalling windows completely?

If that's the case, how do I do that?

Yeah. You can format the hard drive at the same time, but I don't bother with that.

Sounds like you have a persistent little fucker on there. I would transfer all important data to external drive then factory reset/reinstal. Or you can be more specific and we can try to find a solution. What does the ad(s) say specifically?

You can either find an install disc image and burn it to a disk or you can use a flash drive.

If you have an installer CD that came with your computer then use that. My computer didn't come with one but there is a partition on the hard drive that has it. If this is the case for you, there may be a key that you can hit while starting up (F8 I think) that gets you into a menu and gives you an option to do it.

If it started recently, you can do a system restore back to a point before the problem started.

You can also examine the list of programs that start with windows. If you don't know what should be there, you probably won't recognize suspicious entries, tho.

Whenever I manage to get something that does what you are describing, i immediately do a system restore and it works 9/10 times. These programs often require a few reboots to get really entrenched, so it's best to restore as soon as you notice anything.

the majority of time looking at the start list isnt going to inform you of the TSRs
that load as secondary processes, you can find most of them through task manager

At startup hit f12 or whatever it tells you to enter boot menu. You should see a recovery option somewhere.

Sometimes these adware/spywares dont show up on the program list but are installed somewhere on your hard drive. U must seek it out, a .exe file. Make sure u turn on the file extension option to see the ending of file names.

Also, stop going to sketchy porno sites Patlal! Bad kitty!

EDIT: Most adware has a gray colored text near the ad embedded in your browser. Usually says "Powered by _______". That name is the name of the company that made the adware. u gotta find that program with that name on your hard disk.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is pretty good at getting rid of shit like this.

That was a virus that became more symbiotic in nature as time went on and I guess it was a case of Stockholm syndrome when I was rejecting the windows 10 prompts but one of the prompts actually took my "no thanks" as a "yes". I was annoyed that the upgrade forced itself on me against my will but order has been restored.
