Need help(05 sonata problem)

Just changed the oil on my 05 sonata yesterday and when I went to back it out of my garage it wouldnt shift at all. No matter what I shift it into it acts like its in park. I can move the shifter just fine to R,D,etc. and on the dash it looks fine as in there is no check engine light. Only thing i could find is try to clean a connector under the shifter. Any input or ideas would be great cos I am still paying on this car and cant afford to take it to a shop. Thanks in advance

There are no cliffs nearby and it just revs in drive and reverse. Wont move.

Did you accidentally drain the transmission fluid instead of the oil?

when in doubt, C4
Have you checked all your fuses? Could be that, could be something with the transmission... Never really had to deal with a problem like this myself.

I already said what he did. It would be very easy to drain the wrong fluid if you weren't paying attention, and that easily explains why the transmission isn't working.

Yes I changed the correct fluid. I checked the fuses under the dash and they are all good.

Black, I promise it was oil. Tranny fluid has a distict smell.

Shouldn't have bought a car made by commies .
How many miles are on the car? Could be the shifter linkage would be your best case scenario. Never owned the one but their transmissions are know to be POS.

Ok this is weird as fuck. I ended up putting about two and a half quarts of tranny fluid in it and now it works....but heres the kicker, i drove to my family to visit the other day no shifting problems whatsovever same with every other day since i owned it, there have been no leak spots, so how the fuck was I low on tranny fluid? I even test drove it to the next town over and back yesterday so im just baffled

Be mindful of your dipstick padawan . I'd check now... Have the car running and have it warmed up for a bit before you check. It should be within the 'hot' range if that's a thing on your dipstick.

Come on, you know the answer. You accidentally drained the tranny fluid, not the oil. People make that mistake all the time.
http://www.transmissionrepaircostguide.com/what-color-is-transmission-fluid/
Quote:
the color will change over time as it ages, is subjected to heat and friction, and collects contaminants (dirt and debris). It typically starts out bright, translucent pink/red and slowly transitions to a darker, more brown and more opaque color until it appears black. This process is completely normal and does not mean there is a problem.
