Pink Oyster pinning heavy?
    #23609892 - 09/04/16 12:21 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hello All,
This is my first batch of Pink Oysters. I was concerned they're pinning a bit heavy. Also, any concerns with moving them to fruiting chamber too late? The last two pics are of bagsthat were moved a few days prior. Thanks!

Get an arrowhead to punch holes in your logs, bro.
Cutting slits with a box cutter made my pinks overpin as well.
how are you coping with the smell?

Yeah, I got a crossbow quarrel with an arrowhead for the rest of my grow. Will this ruin the taste or harvest in any way? Smell? It's not too bad, but I'm supplying a good amount of fresh air.

It seems to have turned out well enough. Humidifier was down for about a day and a half but running now.

Finishing up the thread here, today was the first harvest. They turned out quite nice!!
The basket almost looks like a bouquet of flowers. Final pic is a pink oyster bruschetta, taste was very good. A mild just barely sweet mushroom earthy taste, and texture was pleasantly in between firm and velvety. Note that the large, fully developed and upcurled pinks have a far superior taste and texture than the small ones.
There were no bags contaminated, and from inoculation to harvest was 17 days. It surprised me how fast these grow. I inoculated fairly heavily, not absolutely certain at the percentage, but likely around 15%. I will have much more exact figures next time around.
Hope this helps anyone out there growing pinks for the first time!!

That's a nice lot of pinks, I see some big ones too.
Well done, even with a humidifier down.

Thanks! I was worried when the humidifier went down. It was pretty clear how much healthier they were when humidity came back on. I have a number of grey dove, italian, and golden oysters colonizing right now, almost ready to fruit.
