Barring drugs, what would you consider the best means of self-exploration?

And by self-exploration, I am talking about concrete things like what you want out of life, how you feel about certain things, guidance for your future path, etc.

being specific or general? Honestly reading a lot and broadly, not necessarily fiction but that too, and just informing oneself imo is very important as far as coming to understand oneself, probably far more important than drug use. Alongside that I would say travel.
don't get me wrong though, LSD an psilocybin have been hugely influential for me as well

Lucid dreaming, meditation, yoga, eating healthy, learning how to cook, journaling, fasting, reading specifically fiction but reading in general. Getting more sex in ur life. I don't mean having meaningless one night stands I mean cultivating genuine connections with women you care about. Connecting with the feminine energy even outside the bedroom is nice. Working out too

College. I know this shit gets a ton a flak, but honestly it forces you to get involved and read about shit you ordinarily wouldnt bother to. Icing on the cake is that if you stick it out and get a degree, you increase your earning potential and can finally afford that health care you probably need.

Masturbation. Nothing like awakening the snake chakra with a massive buttplug.
Apart from that, before I check out I'd like to see various ancient sites around the world and have a good old think.
Then masturbate whilst fantasising. It's very good for the imagination.

I would stress this. The more you explore the world the more the world may teach you about yourself. We learn through experience and we can't do that if we don't go out and have some experiences.
Many religions and cultures have foot journeys and pilgrimages, often alone, because of this. Get out of your comfort zone.

Do you have advice on how to travel on a budget? Or maybe traveling in general too?

Daily meditation, and reading into a little Buddhism is VERY good for this. Best thing I've found, way better than drugs I suspect, but a lot more hard work.
Secondly, psychotherapy. But it's a lot more expensive than the option above. It's easier though.

Surprised about how many say travelling. I've done a fair bit. To me, it's more like just massive fucking fun and excitement than self discovery. I always learn lots along my travels, but more about the ways of the world, rather than the ways of my heart and mind..

I'll give you an example . I live a desert without tons of friendly folks and a terrible job economy. I went to Alaska and on the face of it I didn't like being so far away from home, had no idea what would happen. I first went to a small fishing village but also tourist trap. I ended up on a crab fishin boat with a nice couple my age and it's something I've never done, the nature was so raw. 4 days later I worked on a marine biology boat for science. Saw places I never dreamed of. Somehow when you travel and see amazing things, meet new people you learn immense amounts about yourself

I find it can humble you greatly and put alot of things in your own life into perspective. You experience something that could be so out of your comfort zone or new and exciting or extreme. You meet new people and maybe experience other cultures and ways of life. It can be very eye opening and life changing experiences.
