Black rye. Possible contamination. Need cultivators advice.

This is my first grow and I noticed that there is a rye grain that turned black in the spot where the mycelium has not quite colonized yet (last picture). I took some pictures and I'd appreciate an experienced grower to tell me if it's a contam or if I'm just being paranoid. I plan on doing a g2g with this jar.

Looks like bacteria to me. And not because of the black kernel either. See how the Myc seems to have hit a wall against something and refuses to colonize that small spot? Generally that means it has run up against some type of contaminant.
I would not use this jar for g2g, so you don't spreads bacteria to other jars, but you could still use to spawn to bulk. Let somebody else come in and weigh in on this before you do though.

If I had to guess, I'd say it has run up against yeast. The in colonized portion has a grainy appearance, which is indicative of a yeast infection.

Okay thanks for your input I was thinking bacteria too until I saw the black rye I plan on waiting a few days to see if the mycelium continues to colonize that small portion because it spread more on the bottom last night

I would also like to indicate that this is not cubensis mycelium. It is ATL#7 and I'm trying to grow sclerotia

Oh. Well that changes things then. Somebody else definitely needs to weigh in here, no experience with atl and if you're going to keep that in a jar, not sure what the ramifications would be.

Well I already see very small signs of truffles growing which is my intention but yeah I hope more people can come and help me out with this because I have 4 more jars from outgrow I was going to inoculate but someone decided to throw out my spore syringe

Inoculating directly from a syringe is a vector for contamination, just so you know. Should always put to agar first, but I digress.

Didn't know that. I'll use agar from now on this is my first grow so I'm not very informed on inoculation methods.
