Yes those are liberty caps, good hunting! and congratulations on your first find! But to be 100% safe you get a spore print!

Indeed, but make sure your iron is set for silk, not cotton.

Hey folks, any luck in the North West yet? like around Cheshire? I've had a look in the correct habitats here but no luck yet.
However about a month ago I went to the peak district and I found around 9 Liberty caps, very high above sea level, so I plan on returning to that spot now the rains come.
if anyone wants to meet and search in NW give me a shout.

Well the weather been changing around here lately so took the bike up the mountain yesterday, found just 20 little buggers after 4 hours of walking.
This is my second season hunting and one thing i noticed was that i had a better grasp of where to look for the shrooms from memory of last year, some of the little uns i stumbled accross I would definitely not have found at this time last year.

Hahaha
I had a fantastic trip yesterday so the ironing board of shrooms isn't looking as good anymore :P Only one sheet of paper left, but it rained heavy yesterday night and it's been raining all day today too so I'm looking forward to getting out and refilling my ironing board. :P

There's a few of us near the pennines that are hopefully planning to meet up and go picking/tripping, I don't know if that's too far for you to travel but I'd be happy to show you around some of my favourite spots up in the hills one day.
However if you found 9 a month back in a spot that's high above sea level I don't think it's worth you travelling all the way up here just to go picking. Now that we're having some rainy weather I'd suggest just waiting for a couple days and going back out there. Good luck

you know rudeboy.. for £28- 35 qid can have your shrooms looking like gold a matter of a couple of hours, evenly and effectively without having to push the temperature up... so be gone with the days of sheets of paper and ironing boards ;-)
check it out, they work great , trust. - you can make your own like duecbi9 has, make shift computer fan, some mesh and a box, but if u have some tenners laying around like you have I would invest :-)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/VonShef-Dehydrator-Adjustable-Temperature-Control/dp/B01953FFIE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472913402&sr=8-1&keywords=vonshef+food+dehydrator

its callumboy - of course, just makes them harder to spot that's all , especially when they start to look like little slugs when wet, the amount of baby slugs ive picked up thinking it was lib lol when wet...... can wait 1-3 days after it had been at very least , I like to wait a week , longer you wait the more fruit to be had... upto u tho. no rule of thumb. - unless duecbi9 find some holes in this ,

Haha are those actually safe to use with shrooms? I kinda feel that collecting shrooms should be an exercise in patience; you wait all year for the season, you wait until the weather's perfect, you walk around and wait until you find some, you wait for them to dry... you wait for them to kick in
I usually don't mind waiting a day or so, but sometimes I do get a bit anxious and greedy so it might be useful having one of these around if they're definitely not going to decrease potency.

What really annoys is those weird little mushroom sized weeds that are just little stems with a head of brown seeds poking out like dandelions. No idea what they're called. I don't have the best eyesight so they seem to trick me almost every time, and they always seem to be fucking everywhere that shrooms grow.

hmmm.. I wouldn't recommend something I hadn't tried myself.... its an excerices in patience correct... - but considering I'm going to wait mid October I think that's patience - give spores a chance to spread first.. fruiting here starts around mid sept - maybe earlier going by how much heat we still have, but that just assumption based on my experience so far in suffolk..
the amount you soon start to find , youl start needing something like it.. room more than time I was thinking, but no worries, each to their own
as for decreasing potency , again , I wouldn't recommend something I thought would ruin everything....
it dehydrates moisture, whilst maintaining the quality , it does not cook them..........

I barely use my ironing board hahaha so I don't mind it being taken up for shroom storage :P

yep.. was just passing on what I found incredibly effective.. and I can assure u lol, they do not fuck with the potency...
keep it at around 40o c , no probs... it don't crisp them to the point they crumble upon touch, makes them a nice golden tone and feel like sturdy aluminum wrappers in strength ... the trick is in its airflow, circulates evenly so every part of them gets the warm breeze - and hugely different to just putting a hot fan heater next to them....
besides you can eat the fresh matters not...I was just thinking when it comes to storage depending on how willing you are to find more than a few spots to start filling vac sealed jars up to last thru out the year +.. will come to a point where you will have more than a few spots, in which then you start doing 'the rounds' on a few spots brining home 800 - 1500 + per 4-5 days or what ever, we don't have acres of lush sloping hills that go on seemingly infinite, so 'the rounds' within a 15mile radius is good enough .. which I encourage lol......

Cool Like I say I will probably look into buying one seeing as you can vouch for it's usefulness.
Any idea what these little things are that always catch me out when picking? I have also been fooled by little baby slugs a few times too, but it's these bastards that annoy me the most :P

Surely there must be a few people from the south West Country, I've only lived here and don't know the best time to go, as up north there's a lot about.

Yeah thats what I figured. Was just trying to cut down on travel time as I live some distance from decent potential hunting grounds. Will plan a trip though and get out. Thanks for the info.
