What causes fruits to do this?
    #23607188 - 09/03/16 08:20 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

What is this fucking up my regular cubes? The ape that got mixed in is currently unaffected so it doesn't seem to be environmental. So what is it and how do I avoid it?

That's a mess. Bacteria or perhaps white mold. Doesn't help that they are nearly decomposed. But certainly done. The APE also looks unhappy.

Looks like low-FAE hell for mushrooms.

The sub is actually quite dry from faeces.  It's some kind of bacteria or parasitic something that's deco.pksing them as they grow that doesn't present itself on agar

Definitely got some bacteria blotch going on.  Stop misting

Does anybody else make sure no substrate or anything else gets past the liner? Ex. As op' s pic you can see part of his sub on his wall or does it not matter?

If it's just coir it doesn't really matter.

Here's a pic of another part of the sub. Again the random ape seems unaffected so far. It's obviously something parasitic. Is it possible for bacteria to piggyback on my mycelium  without being seen? The way it's killing them makes me think bacteria.  And since the random ape doesnt seem to have it it makes me think it was riding on my culture somehow.

Also not misting. I'm keeping it as dry as I can because my first thought was bacteria.

bacterial spawn which lead to mold attacking your fruits would be my guess...

I had the same exact thing happen on my last monotub.  It started with the soft brown spots on the caps (the blotch) and a few fruits ended up all nasty looking like the white ones you have.

If you look up bacterial blotch you'll see that a common cause is standing water on the caps.  I stopped misting right away and they didn't get any worse.

Spawn was bacterial to begin with but I thought I could get away with it.  My yield really sucked for that tub.

I guess it was bacterial spawn then. Didn't look or smell bacterial and the wedge showed no signs of bacteria. Well I hope it doesn't jump to the random ape

I've had this happen before with this culture so I'm  curious as to if bacteria can ride along on myc unseen. Prepped and inoculated the ape the same way

Sure can.  You could pass a bacterial infection from using spores or clones from any infected grow.  Cleaning up in agar with transfers will solve this problem.

Nothing but mycelium was visible on the plate used and bacteria is usually pretty easy to spot being all blotchy and gross.

I remember reading way back about somehow bacteria can actually kinda "fuze" somehow with myc and never be seen. Think it was an old RR discussion.

Yes it can and using things like antibacterial agar does not help.

Anyway you can obtain a culture you know to be clean or spores from a different uninfected grow?  Just trying to help ya sort it out.

Yes right now I'm working with other cultures I had slanted. That culture is an older gt clone that I believe has done the same thing in the past. Just checked on the tub and it appears as if mold is showing so it was likely bacteria and when the myc was weak mold took hold. Doomed right out of the gate. I may stick it outdoors just to nab a couple of the ape fruits,  honestly I didn't know I had mixed them and they are a nice little surprise.

I have a rust boy and ape culture going so we will see how they turn out. I'm pretty proud of the ape so far since it was mixed in with that mess and will still likely mature. I think I'm going to just trash the whole gt culture and eliminate that vector.
