This article got me into thinking about it. It's Windows and full of garbage besides what you want to read about.
Anyway what are your top three?
Super Mario, Civ, all of them, and Layers of fear for me.

Final Fantasy (any pre- X part 2), Diablo 2 and DOTA.
I've put 1000s of hours in each of those games. Clocked up over 6k hours on DOTA.
Civ is a damn good shout too and I still take a notion to play a game of it every now n then. Civ6 will be the next game I get.
Mario Kart double dash was awesome too. The others are great but the boosting was a sweet lil extra element.

Good choices. I've devoted probably a half year in time spent on the Civ series. And the new one looks great. Fuck it, I love it.
New Final Fantasy coming out but I'm guessing you knew that already.

Tyrian, great shoot em up
Total Annihilation. Whilst supreme commander (and planetary annihilation) are technically superior, none captured me as much as this Master RTS did. It's the sort of game that yes, you can do a tank rush, or nukes, or massive stompy krogoth robots that destroy everything you throw at it, or, you could build lots of air transports and try to steal the enemy commander. At which point you can:
1: Fly him around the enemy base and wait for anti air to shoot him down, boom!
2: Fly him to your base and shoot him down with your AA, boom!
3: Fly him to a safe spot and ctrl+d, for five seconds of "fuck you troll", boom!
4: Fly him to a killy spot where you've make a ring of dragon's teeth walls and laser turrets set to hold fire. Drop him safely in the middle, select those turrets and set them to fire at will.
The game had crawling bombs which were really slow, people pretty soon figured out you could get air transports to pick them up and turn them into flying bombs. Fun times.
I've played this FPS more than any other, even doom (the original). I was tempted to put titanfall, because that's a competative FPS, but now killing floor 2 has pvp, and I'm having a lot of fun playing that.
It's one of the few FPS games where melee is viable as your enemy is lots of bitey/slashy zombies, so a sledgehammer with a shotgun shell on it becomes a viable tatic.

Nothing terribly wrong with those games but top 3 games of all tie ? Ffs DotA comes from a custom game on Warcraft 3 , world of Warcraft is terrible and there's a monthly subscription how shitty... and halo ? Don't get me started on those Xbox fanboys

Whats wrong with a game evolving from a a wc3 mod? It more or less created a new genre of game which has huge tournaments and loads of copycats these days. I used to play the original patches of it too on wc3.

Yea if you played wc3 you would know the vast majority of DotA players were bad at normal regular ladder /bnet games. People got into DotA because it's easier to control 1 unit than control several, you are all cop outs .. there is very little skill involved . I hate DotA players with a passion... And I rarely hate anything .

Not going to make a list - but the OG behind castlevania is doing/did a kickstarter for Bloodstained, a spiritual successor to Castlevania - and it is going to be amazing I bet.

Top 3 is really tricky to narrow down, but:
Dark Souls - I'm playing through it for my first time at the moment, so haven't actually beat it yet, but around 90 hours in, and at this moment it's one of the best games I've ever played

the story line itself was a bit bland... but the physiscs, city and general AI behavior kept me playing that shit almost daily for years on end... I would just load it up and fuck around for hours and hours and hours, especially the lost and the damned expansion... gta v I was sick of before I even got to beating it, other than graphics I think it was a step down from 4 in every other department. That said, trevor is probably one of my all time fav video game characters

Difficult to narrow it down to three, but these titles changed the way I view games, gave me hours upon hours of entertainment, and are still fun today:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Man, I loved the NES so much. My first console. And as a kid, the anticipation for this game was intense. They gave you a glimpse of it in that movie The Wizard and I could. not. fucking. wait to get my hands on it. My parents didn't really like me playing games and I usually had to save up for them myself, but this is one of the few they actually got me for Christmas. It was, of course, just as amazing as I had anticipated. I loved how the levels encouraged exploration. They threw in awesome stuff like the world where everything is giant. They had cool secrets like warp whistles and coin ships. There were rare things to collect like the frog and tanooki and hammer bros. suits. And there were fun little touches like that level with an enemy/item/suit (Kuribo's Shoe) which doesn't appear anywhere else in the game. After the surreal shift in focus with Mario 2 (which was fun, but very different from the original), I was glad to be back in the Mushroom Kingdom fighting goombas and koopa troopas and Bowser. An instant classic that I've beaten countless times over the years.
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Another game I highly anticipated. I'd just switched schools and was a little lonely but my excitement for this game kept me going. I read and re-read every article about it in Nintendo Power, and I drew pictures of swords and enemies and what I thought the dungeons should look like. I had my money all saved and was expecting to get this on day one, but my dad actually found a Radio Shack that broke the release date, and he surprised me by bringing it home a few days early. I love this game and its awesome 3DS successor, A Link Between Worlds. You know how people raved about the open world when GTA first came out? That was nothing, I felt the same sense of scale and wonder exploring Hyrule years earlier. I still consider this a masterpiece of game design and every time I replay it I'm amazed how well it holds up, even after 25 years.
Doom (1993)
This wasn't the first FPS I played, actually there were a lot before it like Wolfenstein, Catacomb 3D, Ken's Labyrinth, etc. But Doom gripped me like no other. I played through the campaign on varying difficulties, and it was the first game where I experienced "online play" - by dialing in directly to my friend's computer via blazing-fast 14.4k modem. It was also my first experience with level editing, and I was working on an epic stage with custom music (a MIDI of Verse Chorus Verse by Nirvana) and custom textures (including floor textures which required resource hacking). Totally sweet features for a custom map at the time. A few years ago I found a copy of my work in progress on an old floppy disk, and amazingly it could still be read. I spent a LOT of time working on CHINCH.WAD, but I never ended up finishing it, or distributing it (before now), so the project ended up being solely for my own edification. But I think making that level was just as much fun as playing the game!
Anyway there are a lot of awesome titles I've played over the years but those are definitely the first three that come to mind when I try to pick favorites. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

breath of fire i forget which one probably three or something
magic carpet WAS pretty fun wonder if theres similar classics to that though its appeal is sort of one of a kijnd
then besides those ,
just like a rts like starcraft or red alert
idk not much capturing nowadays besides a few here and there. no more captivating
i got my eye on dungeon keeper though that i will try next

That's weird, I loved that game, and I'm only a casual Star Wars fan, I wouldn't even call myself a Star Wars fan actually. But a lot of RPGs have numbers, perhaps you've played newer RPGs and not the old school Bioware games like Baldur's Gate? What RPGs do you like?

I found a store that sells NES games yestarday
Have no idea who would be stupid enough to buy them when you can just download them
I saw captain skyhawk and got unbelievably hyped I have the instruction manual for that game but I never played it
i think my NES games are worth more at home because then I can look at them

1 - Morrowind
2 - Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines (Once it's patched to fix a lot of bugs )
3 - Prey
I could change Prey out with so many other games, some already listed but I thought I would go with one of my favorite shooters, although I do love Quake 3 Arena when it comes to online shooters.
Or the online multiplayer for the old AVP2 with the expansion pack Primal Hunt went hard as fuck back in the day if anyone played that.
The new Doom was sweet also for a modern shooter.

1. Baldur's Gate Shadows of Amn... best game ever. I emplore everyone to fucking play it.
2. Kingdom Hearts... no explanation needed.
3. World of Warcraft. Lot of fun times with friends, though, I do not play it anymore it holds a special place in my heart.
