If that's how it is for you then I am really no person to judge though. But I can tell you from personal experience that is isn't good to hide something, anything, from a spouse.
My wife knows everything there is to know about me.
The benefit? Trust and loyalty. Unbreakable trust and loyalty.

My wife knows more or less about me. She doesn´t accept it though. And still is very suspicious. And I try not to talk or reveal things that will just make her upset. Better to talk about other things when possible. Anyway I think she softened somewhat during the years, seeing that I did´nt get so mad after all.

Are you prepping grains around her or do you buy the jars already prepared?
Id say you would have some explaining to do if she saw you loading birdseed or whatever into a jar and then pressure cooking it lol

I did not have luck with the paper bag in fridge that I read quite a bit about here. I put about 200g of stones in a paper bag, folded over the top a bunch of times then taped it shut. In a couple of weeks the stones were dried out and rock hard.

That sounds like it worked as intended then. The fridge dehydrates with coldness. The alternative if you had used something besides paper is that they'd have been ruined and rotted, rather than just dry.

oh. I guess I misunderstood how they would keep- i was under the impression that they would stay "fresh" for a time, like two or three weeks. I opened them up hoping to just munch them as is, but had to crush them into a tea. no big deal, just not what I expected.

I think it's possible but some drying definitely occurs no matter what. Do you have like, one of those baking soda things in your fridge by chance?

If they are in a jar with an airtight lid they will not dry out. I find fresh stones go bad in a few weeks. The last batch I had I dried out just partially and then put in a glass jar with airtight lid. These semi dry ones still look OK several months on, I was able go get them to grow again on agar a few weeks ago too. I did not track how much I dried them, I could have done it by weighing before and after. I will definitely be doing this again, they are nicer to work with for cloning as its a little easier to cut and work with the drier texture.
You will see uncovered cheese go dry in fridges, or mince/ground beef if the packet is open one end. Some will dry out steaks on purpose in the fridge so they do not have excess moisture.

I am not sure I understand the paper bag method. Does the paper bag need to be closed or open? Small or big?

You cant hide them in the same fridge your wife uses, she might think they are carmel gum drops.

Paper lunch bag. Grocery stores have them for cheap. I wash & dry(important**) my fresh stones. Just put them in the bag, i use a small piece of tape to keep the bag closed.
Essentially think of them like youre preserving other food. Sclerotia lasts longer than shrooms in refridgeration because theyre hardened masses meant to withstand large range of environments.
Done this many times for periods of months. Obviously try to harvest as needed, because the fresher the better. Stagger harvesting the jars so you have 10 doses or whatever you want in the fridge..

Why do you need to wash?
