Does kratom stand a chance?

Kratom is set to potentially become a schedule 1 controlled substance on September 30th. I don't know how the DEA could argue that this is a dangerous substance but I imagine they will win and this plant will soon be illegal.
Do you think kratom has a chance to stay legal?

Nope. From what I've read, the DEA has already made up its mind. And when a bureaucratic government entity like that sets something in motion, it's pretty hard to stop.

It's funny that they want the research to catch up with the use but a law like this impedes researchers to just that. Ignorance is bliss...

All the cool drugs get scheduled. If it's natural it's going to be highly restricted. They cannot allow the people to empower themselves with friendly plant spirits! Drug free nation, until you're forced to take their meds!

Is any appeal in favor of kratom that the court would take into consideration? It's ashame imo.

You ever heard of Khat? Kratom's going to join it's friend Khat. The answer is a decisive no.

I don't know but I doubt it. It is a shame. This is going to affect the quality of life of a lot of people.

I doubt it stands much of a chance.
Which honestly sucks, it's popular but not really. Most people are turned off by the amount you have to take. But personally, I love Kratom for those days when I just can't seem to get out of bed.

I can see the court proceedings now.. "Is it dangerous?"
"Well, no not really."
" uh, does it get you high?"
"Sort of."
"Ermagerd make it illegal!"

Yes, my quality of life is about to hit rock bottom for a bit.
I was on opiates, heroin mostly, for over a decade of my life, got clean and was sober for several years after that but couldn't deal with the anxiety/depression I was going through. The depression/anxiety was not brought on my lack of opiates, or PAWS or whatever, I had been that way since before I ever got into using any substances, so it's just a part of who I am. I had tried benzos, but since I like to be active (run/bike/hike), they interfered with my endurance so are not good for me.
Anyway, I found kratom after several years of trying sobriety, it has really helped me out in a huge way, so this sucks.
I don't think something like kratom stands a chance though, it's almost like since pot is being accepted more and more these days, that they have to find something else to attack.
I wouldn't mind if they put an age one had to be to purchase it, that would be great, maybe 21+ can buy it, but yeah this sucks.

It would stand a chance if there were an organized entity who pushed strongly for it to remain legal. Just like marijuana has a chance to be legalized because of that. A few organized individuals push for it in the media, lobby for it, etc.
The difference with kratom IMO is the time frame that this is landing in. Seems unlikely that time will allow anyone to build a media storm or lobby.

It looks to me like the DEA is a sock puppet of the big Pharmaceutical companies; I always figured that big pharm had influence, but they've chopped at least one ball off of the DEA with this one. This scheduling completely absurd, without merit, it smells of conspiracy and decay, the DEA has abandoned reason and surrendered to the greed that is big pharm. I read a comment a couple of days ago about this, "next they'll be scheduling chamomile", it was not so far from the truth. Congress should complete the Testectomy of the DEA and limit their powers to printing pamphlets and posters.

Yeah there are probably billions behind it. Billion-dollar corporations, that is.
Edit: Yeah, Kickle, I don't mean a billion-dollar conspiracy.

It is confusing, not one bit of this action makes sense, unless it's a ruling to create more funding for the agency, the reasons given have not merit, it seems greed wins. Big Pharm eliminates another option it can't control is the other benefit for those who benefit.

Well you can bet these big pharm companies understand the hell out of kratom, and are pulling the rug out before it really takes off. The article I read said that it might be a temporary scheduling, but I don't buy that for a second. The medical industry wants kratom off the market. I think you're absolutely right.
