For a 12 x 24" filter face you need 200CFM @ 1.0 SP. for 18 x 24 you need 300CFM, for 24 x 24 its 400CFM
Am I shooting for 1.0 SP because that's the resistance of the filter, or 1.2 SP accounting for the pre-filter?
Sorry if I'm being thick.

lol this is confusing stuff.
I'm wondering if the word "plenum" mentioned is what I think it is(the space inside the flow hood box that is being fed with air from the blower. Obviously the box that houses the almost 6 inches of HEPA must have some airspace behind the HEPA to allow air to move out of the blower. Is there a standard recommended depth? I basically want to minimize the amount of space my flow hood takes up on the table it will be on so that i can have as much work space as possible. So if I want to maintain a narrow profile on the hood what would be a minimum depth of the "plenum"?

The SP required for laminar flow is usually somewhere between 0.8"&1.2"wg. The key is to maintain a flow rate of around 100cfm per ft2 face area, while maintaining the 1"wg plenum pressure.
The .2 sp is added to compensate for the pre filter yes.
So to do the math you go 12 x 24 ÷ 144 , X 100.
So you just want a blower that pushes as close to 200CFM @ 1-1.2 SP as you can get. I wouldn't get one that doesn't push at least 200 @ 1.2. You can power down a stronger blower if thats all you can get too, fungi perfecti sells my blower (549 CFM @ free air) to pair with 12 x 24" filter, they expect you to powrr it down tho

The plenum is the space behind the filter that the blower pushes down into from up top, the pressure builds and blows thru the filter.
It should be at minimum equal to the depth of the filter. A 6" deep filter should have at least a 6" deep plenum. Id say build it a little bigger tho, maybe 8 or 10". But 6 should work
