 Mini terrarium casing tek

Howdy folks. just wanted to give you guys an alternative to the terrarium style grows. This tek is great for people on very limited budgets and people that dont have much room in one spot to grow in.
What you will need:
12oz to 16oz plastic cups (i used solo cups)
plastic baggies (i know all of you are very familiar with these)
rubber bands
everything you'd need to do the pf tek
Once you get a colonized 1/2 pint via pf tek, dunk it overnight as you usually would. the next day, crumble it into the "solo" cup and cover with baked vermiculite. Mist it until the verm is very damp, but no standing water has formed. Make sure the inside of the "solo" cup is sprayed too. Place the baggie over it and secure with the rubberband. The baggie will form a "limp dome". Dont worry that it isnt held upright, it wont matter. Place in a warm spot to incubate. For me, this spot is on the floor next to the place where the heater blows into the room. At the first signs of mycelia poking through the casing, put it in the fridge overnight. After this cold-shock, put it where ever you like. it is a totally self contained, protected "terrarium". Dont worry about misting or fanning it until you are ready to harvest. Harvest all the mushies at the same time. So, that means, let the first of the crop overage a little bit in order to let the main crop of the first flush mature. After you pick your first flush, patch the missing vermiculite with freshly baked vermiculite and mist until moist. A new flush should arrive within 2 weeks at the latest. Repeat the picking, patching, moistening after every flush. Dont worry about misting or fanning the mini-casings. they get all the water they need in the initial misting and seem to do fine with the air they receive while picking. On average, 5-6g is easily aquired using this tek per solo cup.
Now you have yet another option to choose from. Hope this helps some of you get away from fruiting cakes and eases you into the wonderful of casings

cool. wondering if you could crumble into baked wormcastings and incubate. would that help increase the yield? as for the baggies, after incubation, would you just leave the 'terrarium' just out in a room with light to make it fruit?

yep, just leave it out in room temps and it'll grow. to answer your other question, the cool thing about this tek is that you can experiment with different additives like worm castings, store bought compost, etc to see if they work on a super small scale.

cool. i'm gonna try it with a couple of cakes on my first run, starting to nite. just took em out of the pressure cooker. how would i spawn the cakes into the wormcastings and perlite without contams? i am thinking of doing this in a small tupperware container. thanks man.

jono, i'd either sterilize the worm poo in a jar or pastuerize it in a bag. it would resist contams better if you pastuerized it.

if you wanted to increase the size of the casings a bit i've seen some "deep dish" tupperware type containers (dixie brand i think) at the grocery store. you could put these into the large freezer bags, rubber band, and perhaps get better bang for your substrate?
if anyone tries this make sure to tape up the bottom and sides of the tupperware first

that should work fine, fourhodmt. just be sure the inside of the bag is well misted before you attach it to the dixie container. the secret to making this work well is misting the inside of the bag before you attach it. i would recommend using a few larger rubberbands, though. you want it to be easy to remove and replace for picking.

MB, i'm sure that would work fine, but the point of this tekis to eliminate the need for a terrarium. if i were you, i'd just case 4 or so 1/2 pints like normal and fruit in the terrarium.
