Very cool mushroom with a pattern on the cap. * 3
    #23603650 - 09/02/16 03:53 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

NZ South Island. Found in a park growing on a fallen branch of a tree.

Gills: Polypore? teeth?

About 6cm tall. The cap is an oval shape about 12cm x 10cm. Very unique pattern on the cap.

I've searched and searched for this one so I would really appreciate your help with an ID. Sorry photos are a bit fuzzy

Great work elprawn thanks so much!

Joie thanks for the .pdf although I do struggle a lot with reading scientific papers.  Yes really I do   A good reference for others too.

Thanks chip, it makes for happy hunting when you find something a bit rarer and endemic.

Do you think you'll be able to get some high quality pictures? This species is quite poorly-documented online and very few pictures exist.

Unfortunately no as I found this in April this year. I see they have been found in Tasmania too but I have had no luck with finding photos with the Atlas of Living Australia.

I love finding rare or funky endemic species, something awesome about finding and documenting something not many people in the world and probably NZ have seen. I feel we are very lucky in New Zealand to have access to such beautiful and varying native habitats to hunt in, there must be so much out there waiting to discovered
