Amanita amerimuscaria, right??
    #23602888 - 09/01/16 09:42 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Im 90% positive these are amanita amerimuscaria but i want to be 100% sure before using them. Im questioning them because i thought muscarias were much bigger.

Found these at about 10,000 ft at the santa fe ski basin in new mexico. In the forest near a stream. Conifers and aspen forest.

Gills are white, spores are white. Gills not attached to stem, it seems.

No smell, maybe just fresh smelling. No taste.

Stems are white ranging from 1 inch to 3 inches long, about 1.5 cm wide with a bulb base with visible concentric rings on one of them. Very visible veil around stem on 2 of them, possible veil on the 3rd(not as defined), with a yellowish rim to the veil. One of these has a very short stem, almost just bulb and cap.

Caps are red with a yelowish rim. White spots. Ranging from 4 to 6 cm across. Strange craters or dimples on cap with a yellow color inside.

Looks that way but I thought the Reds were only in Europe?

Im not sure, that could be true, but something tells me we do have reds here. I would like to know for sure, or at least know if these, what i have, could be a poisinous lookalike of A. Muscaria or not. Safe to eat?

You can call it this for now, I don't think amerimuscaria is being used yet, but in the future it might be.
