I want to start getting them but don't know if I should get glass or plastic
Then I don't know what brand...
Anyone use FP' S pyrex dishes or plastic dishes?

Plastic. Pyrex is too fucking expensive for something I only use for a week at a time. Id rather spend my money on grain.

500 case for like 100$ from a couple vendors, if you need a link
Lately been using smaller dishes, theyre great, from 500ml agar you get 30 plates instead of 20 with the larger plates.
Especially for isolation/spore germination the smaller plates kick ass.

I use polystyrene 60 mm dishes and 100 mm 3-section petri's. I'm gonna get regular 100 mm soon too! Then I can really decide. Everything has it's purpose.

They just come pre sterilized? You just pour them yourself?
I zoomed in on the pic and they're gama sterilized! That's cool

Nice but thanks I got a couple links just wanted to see what people were using but you make a good point about the smaller dishes which I now might consider

That's actually exactly as I do it. I use parafilm though cause it's so easy to use. I couldn't get seran wrap to work. d

Yep. I did 5 3-section petris with a spore sprint and have done several transfers from each section multiple times. I really like the dishes but they were hard to pour. That was before I got this:

Fucking nice how much was that? I was literally just looking at some on ebay.. So I've decided I'm gonna order 2 20 pack sleeves of plastic Petris from FP
Should I sterilize my media in a pc then pour in a sab? Or pour in SAB then sterilize?
Well I suppose the question is are these even autoclaveable? I wrote fp a email but they're closed now,so I'm sure I'll here back from them tomorrow. so I'll let y'all know, or if anyone has done this I'd love to hear so

I really like the Falcon brand. Fungi Perfecti sells it. It has a pull apart sleeve which is easy to work with and has a sterile sleeve folded up inside.
They're really solid, they dont crack like the cheap ones

You mix the agar up in the media bottle and sterilize it, then pour in the sab. You can't p.c. polystyrene dishes without melting them. even if you could they would boil over.
I bought two of those bottles for 30 dollars after shipping. Not too bad. I'm still waiting on a wickless alcohol lamp too.

Personally, I buy these for my lab: http://cynmar.com/petri-dish-glass/19972-GLASS-PETRI-DISH-60x15mm10PK.html
They are $8.50 for a pack of 10 glass autoclavable petris. So, $0.85 each I use them so many times over and over, they are just more worth it for me in the end. Personally, I use them about 2 times per month each, so they pay themselves off vs disposables in about 10 weeks.

1 litre is fine. I usually prep either 500ml or 1 litre batches, a half litre pours a sleeve of 20 plates usually I think.
E rlenmyer flasks , especially with screw tops make great agar media containers now, its all I use. If you dont have a threaded top on your flask a wad of polyfill or alluminum foil cover works fine! These are extremely cheap on ebay or Amazon!

Is cling wrap just as effective as parafilm?
