Shot out of the sky, falling but not resigned

So some of you may have heard me talking about a really good job I was in the process of applying for. It was a software engineering position at an aerial imaging firm. The employment process was lengthy, and I made it through all but the last gate: taking 2 IQ tests, an initial interview, and finally a second interview with 5 company engineers. I almost had it! I wouldn't bother posting this if I hadn't been so close.
That's why I'm crushed; they clipped my wings. It's only the first big position I've interviewed for lately (though I've applied to many) and I was certain I had it, but I find out today I didn't get it with no explanation. I asked them for one but understand they aren't obligated to justify it.
I know this seems trivial but I've been out of work for several weeks now. I'm living with my parents again until I can get off my feet, and I'm trying to leave my heroin addiction behind me as I seek to build a better life for myself and my girlfriend.
I feel like things are working against me though, sometimes it's hard to stay optimistic when no one seems to want to give you a chance.
I don't know where I'm going with this, I needed to vent. You don't need to pity me, but if you have anything to say I'd like to discuss this with someone

Just keep looking man. If you got that far once you can do it again. It's just the process.

It was revoked because I made a joke about looking for opana on WCA about a year ago.
I really wish it would be reinstated but I understand there is good reason behind the site minimizing their liability.

You don't know who the other candidates were. If you got that far it means that your were a serious consideration, so you can feel good about that. We all have setbacks and disappointments, its how we deal with them where our true character shines through.

You got really close...maybe call them every now and then to remind them that you're still interested if they have a need. You never know, the guy they hire may not pan out.
Keep sending out resumes and stay the fuck away from H. Things will get better even though they could get worse first. And, like others said....look at the bright side...you went very far into the process so you must have a lot going for you.

They didn't clip your wings, they enabled you to find something else. I know it sucks to be let down like that, but there are a million options and for all you know that job would have sucked.
Be easy on yourself. Listen to yourself. The right answer is in there. Live your life as best you can, and I think we both know that taking heroin is not that. There are better feelings out there in life the only difference is that you can't have that on command, it comes out of nowhere after you have been working hard appreciating life.
Get back on the horse man, not heroin tho.

Yeah it was oddly unorganized in that they each came in seperately and asked me to explain my background each damn time.
It was quite ridiculous, but I suspect that's intentional to sort of stress test the candidate.
I did great in the interview, but I lacked specific experience with their primary language of development (c++) even though I'm very familiar with a language that shares much of the same syntax (java). My guess is I simply went up against another candidate who had more experience in the specific language they were developing with. That would comfort me, knowing at least i was close.

my dream job for this summer was working at a state park picking up trash and i didnt get it, now i'm addicted to thinkin about shooting people who litter instead. perhaps u will become addicted to thinking about shooting people who make computer viruses which destroy perfectly good software.
not getting the job worked out because i have flexible hours doing factory work so i can spend my spare time traveling the country
what's so exciting about laying around and doing heroin? just spend all your heroin money on new experiences nd traveling instead and life will suck a lot less & you'll have new memories and more friends n connections - n subsequently job opportunities, from all around. if you're broke then go trainhopping or someshit

Heroin is a symptom of an underlying issue. In my case, a desire to be employed. Not just employed at any job but the job I know I am capable of working. I am a competent software developer and have been passionate about the craft since I was 12.
It's just a lot more of a fight to find employment than I anticipated and I'm struggling to stay optimistic. Yes I am actively working to end my heroin addiction despite recent issues. It's an internal fight.
For what it's worth heroin has absolutely not barred me from job opportunities up until this point. It has fucked up my financial life but I keep myself well groomed and have not used several days prior to job interviews etc. I'm not a daily user but I've slipped up on several occasions recently after having a month clean.

I'm in the process of building a social media app with some other recent college graduates. We won 10,000 dollars back in April to kickstart the development and have been working ever since.
Unfortunately, one of the other programmers on the project has been showing complete incompetence to the point where the other 4 of us are ready to kick him out and the other programmer is not very knowledgeable and works very slowly.
The other 2 team members are business graduates who are focused on marketing and branding, so essentially I'm trying to build a massive social media application by myself, with occasional help from another person. It's very trying and there's no money actually being received for my work so at times it feels like it's all for naught.
We haven't quit though.

If you're addicted, then you might be off your game if you don't use for a few days.
I feel like you're not that deep into the heroin are you? Do you experience withdrawal? Right how you're using for fun (to kill the boredom). Things get much worse when you start to use because not using is unbearable.

Well I'm a composer and spent about 10 years developing the theoretical background of my work, it was necessary to do what I need to do. Anyways I perform sometimes, but never on a consistent basis, and I've turned down a few good deals to perform with groups which were already touring. Not going there until the work is up to standard (which is very soon).
I know how you feel working an average of 3-4 hours a day on something for years, having partners drop out on you and generally get in the way, working shitty jobs to survive.
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other until you get there man.

Thanks rep. It's comforting knowing others have fought the good fight.
@koods I don't experience actual withdrawals as I don't use daily for life than a day or two typically. I'm honestly striving to stay clean but I slip up once in a while and it seems like I've been slipping up more frequently this past week.
