Pan Cyanescens question

Hey guys. Hope everyone's doing well. Out of ignorance I happened to inoculate a substrate jar with pan cyanescens thinking they would grow just as cubensis do. After doing some research online I read about how a substrate with manure is needed for pan cyans.
My current substrate jar is from midwestgrowkits from which it's advertised as:
• Natural Organic Brown Rice Flour • Vermiculite • Mineral Water • Liquid worm castings • Bee Pollen
What I was wondering was: when the jars are completely caked up, can I spawn them, shred them, and mix them with manure and a casing to bring them to life? Or have I failed completely?

I am sure it will colonise brf/pf tek but it will have to be broken up after (cheese grated) and used as substrate for a bulk grow, it makes sense if its already colonising and you dont want to toss it, but if it was just done its debatable whether to continue. I do know that most use grains to begin (easier to break up w/o damage) then spawn to bulk (wheat straw/manure) but if unsure wait for more comments. I grow Pan Subbs every spring/fall but the myc network is already established in my veg garden so I just keep feeding it more manure (sheep/goat) and wheat straw and they keep popping up by the hundreds weekly may-july sept-nov) yearly so if you go that route you can grow the mycelium then spawn a bed or a tub to use as a fruiting chamber when ready. They thrive outside, not sure about indoors, never tried but its in my plans Pan Goliath very soon!

Awesome. Your response has given me hope how would I spawn to manure/straw? Grate the mycelium cake when it's full colonized then mix it 50/50 with manure/straw? How about the casing? Or does that come after the manure is colonized also?

there are some different ways to go about it but the plan that makes the most sense to me is to wait until your spawn is fully colonized then give it 3 or 4 days to consolidate. after that break it up and mix it with your manure/straw substrate and put it into trays making sure to keep it no more than 2 inches thick. i have some pyrex oven roasting pans i use which are nice because they are not much more than 2 inches thick and you can see through them. some growers use a spawn to substrate ratio of 1:2 but a 1:1 ratio will give faster colonization times. after your substrate colonizes give it a few days to consolidate then add your casing layer. this will consist of a 50/50 mix of peat/vermiculite with a touch of gypsum or you can use jiffy seed starter mix. after that you will introduce the cased substrate trays into fruiting conditions using an SGFC or a martha-style greenhouse setup. give an occasional misting of water to maintain the moisture of the casing layer and keep the humidity high up until you start to see pins forming. after pins form you need to give it a good amount of FAE while keeping the humidity elevated but not as high as it was. if all goes well you should see fruits in several days or less. these suggestions will give you an overview of the process but to understand the nuance behind these actions you should read as much as you can about this subject. many of the most informative posts are in the grow log subforum of this site which requires 10 posts and 2 weeks membership to access.

Do not consolidate spawn...once they are colonized spawn them right away and as for ratios the diff between 1:1 and 1:2 is a couple days at best...

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

i can't say how quickly pan cyan mycelium will colonize BRF but i would dispute the notion that pans grow slowly compared to cubes. someone posted a grow on here where they inoculated with a clean culture and in 3.5 weeks they were harvesting fruits. and my own experience in trying to grow them has shown a tendency towards quick growth as well. in my second attempt i was using an MS LC and my spawn was about 85-90% colonized in 12 days but then the temperature got up to 95F for a few days and they got stalled out.

I'll easily dispute that statement any day of the week
