Effective Range Of Flow Hood

So, I've got a laminar flow hood set up. Its 2'x4'. How far does its reach go? Can I be back 2 ft from it, and still be working in sterile air conditions?

I wouldn't risk it but if it blows that hard you have too much flow a bic flame should be be 45-90° angle without flickering about three to six inches

Ideally you want to work as close to the filter as possible.

Close. Like directly in front of it not more than 6-12 inches away.
Depends on where you have it though for its effectiveness. If you want to be able to have a better range, use an ultra clean room and run the flowhood for awhile before using the room.

Also, if you're new and your posts contain the words: Humidifer, incubator, air-stone, or heater, then you need to read and UTFSE before asking people to review your setup. OR... You should be cultivating reptiles and fish, not mushrooms.

I keep mine on a really small table at the moment
I work as close as possible to the filter, right up next to it and I would say this is always advisable.
To just keep stuff clean and in the flow (like jars pulled out of the sterilizer) I fill my workspace up like in that photo above.
As long as nothing gets between your sterile work and the filter I think you have a good bit of range. When Im working with spawn bags I have to pull them out a little ways sometimes and I dont sweat it.
2 feet seems a little far though

Alright, sounds good. I'll make sure to keep within 8" of the filter. I did the bic lighter test, and it did pass the test.

I didn't build this one, I actually got it from a lab auction. Even still, I've got a 2'x2'x6" hepa laying around here, along with a squirrel cage that would be perfect for laminar flow. I do plan on building and posting that one at least. Perhaps I'll take a few snaps of this one, and post it along side.
