So pink oyster, this fucker dies in my fridge, fruits off agar... it dosent play nice with my typical storage methods. I used to transfer every month to a new plate but i don't have time for that. Now i just have grain jars with fruits on the top to take cultures from. Anyone have any pointers?

That's interesting. How long will they last in sterile water at room temp?
Will they grow out into the water or expand?
How would you pull a sample from that container? Stir up the wedge and make something like liquid mycelium?
Should we add any nutrients in the water?
Would this work for other species?

With Golden I have to wrap them in kitchen roll, soaked in clean water. Placed into a bowl with no lid, in a fridge at 2°C.
They still need air, else they mulch.
----
Nevermind, I realize you meant storing substrates.

Same boat. What about a fridge set at 50-60F or so?

Glad to hear I am not alone in trying to solve this dilemma. I get tired of having to transfer to new plates all the time. The thought of storing them in a mini fridge at 55F has also crossed my mind Mycolorado.

I use the same tubes i would use for slants, about half to three quarters full of water with no nutes. Just plop the wedge in. To retrieve, I jab it with a scalpel or inoculation loop. They sometimes grow out a little bit but not much. Not sure how long they last but I've seen others claim years without transfer. It works for all species and is how I back mine up.

I had a straw bag of pinks in my fruiter which is way too cold for them...it sits between 64-69F and they just sat there in stasis for about a month. I put them outside the other day and they woke right up.

Yea they need at least 75F to pin IME, then you can turn down the temps to 70s to 60s and get some blood red pinks!

Mine would pin in the 50s and 60s. You can either store them at 50f or run it on water agar and store those wedges in distilled water at room temp. You can also store grains in tubes in the fridge if it stays above 45-50f.
