Hello I'm completely new to the site and to mushrooms or any trips in general I have a few questions and I'm not even sure if I'm posting in the right place but 1. What is a sterile liberty cap? 2. What is generally the best month to start hunting I live in Northern Ireland so probably very similar to the UK 3.has anyone had any luck around Belfast?

Sterile caps cannot make more caps.
Whatever Autumn month that it starts to rain with any decent frequency.

Try mushroomobserver.org, and use the search function on this website for liberty caps + Ireland + Belfast etc.

Also the only sterile liberty cap you'll ever find is one that's a clean culture and has been left aside long enough that the specimen fruits in the dish. Closest thing to sterile anything that you'll see. (If the lib even fruited).

Ok cheers guys, I was wondering about the sterile libs because people seem to make a big deal out of it when they find one are they just rare or is there anything more to it?

Here's the map of observations for Psilocybe semilanceata, I don't see Ireland on there, but I know I have seen observations of it from Ireland, maybe on here though.

^ Yeah I looked and saw, but thought it was weird there weren't any because I've seen it before. Had to have been here, I only go to one other OMC and couldn't find anything.
