How much water in PC?

I have the presto PC with PSI gauge. Its 23 quarts:
https://www.amazon.com/Presto-01781-23-Quart-Pressure-Canner/dp/B0000BYCFU
How can I be sure how much water to put in there? I have noticed that if you put too much, you will kill your jars. Not the jars themselves, but they'll get water in them and then you've got to start over. But if you put too little, it will run out of water before its done, and you've just killed your pressure cooker. Well, maybe. You can use it again, but its risky cause you may have damaged it.
So how do you guys make sure you've got enough water in there for the 90 minutes, but not too much?

Wouldn't it have to vary, depending on what (and how much of something) you put in there? Are you saying its 3 quarts every single time, no matter what?

Yes. That's what I'm saying. Sometimes you have to raise or lover the trivet. Honestly with agar I use like 1.5-2 quarts since its only in there 20m or so

water may go half way up the sides of any jar or vessel, but at least half of any jar or vessel needs to be in contact with the steam.
I put 12 cups in I get 10+ back out after a 120m run you shouldn't loose much anyway.

it's for thermal mass, if you only have a little bit of water it cools down too quick, especially if you're sterilizing agar.

I put enough water just to come up the sides of my quart jars and it's worked fine all these years. It gets to full pressure faster when you use less water

It depends on the PC. I have two grates i put in separated by lid rings and i fill about 1-2 inches above that. So a total of about 5 inches deep. I have to do this because my pc runs dry easily.

Halfway up the jar
-------------------- Don't like researching posts? Read this! . Also, if you're new and your posts contain the words: Humidifer, incubator, air-stone, or heater, then you need to read and UTFSE before asking people to review your setup. OR... You should be cultivating reptiles and fish, not mushrooms.

Not that OP will see this because he's a little bitch, but for everyone else, no. Fuck no. Hell to the no.
That's WAY too much water. Like 2-3 quarts, an inch or two up the sides of the jars, is plenty.
Seriously.

Halfway up the jar is wayyyy too much and it'll take forever to reach full pressure.

You do get to pressure quicker using less water sure but then you also should increase your ventilation time before adding the weight so its moot
With 3 quarts of water in a presto 23q. The water is half way up the first layer of quart jars.
It shouldn't take more than 15-20m to hit pressure on a modest stove
If you're cutting corners or trying to shave time off the PC aspect of cultivation you're probably a retard

The main reason I'm asking this, is because last time I attempted to sterilize some jars, the water WAS halfway up the jars. Like most people will tell you. Yet somehow, they were ruined by getting water inside the jars.
It was just your standard jar setup, for the PF tek. Nothing different.
