Spherical fungus..not puffballs
    #23597544 - 08/31/16 01:37 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hello!
These pictures pretty much speak for themselves. I didn't really know where or how to find the spores unless the "flesh" is the spores. The only other information I can provide is that they were found under a basswood tree with heavy shade in a clearing on the edge of the woods right on the Illinois Indiana border closest to the north (near Lake Michigan).
The ball with the greenish cross section was soft while the others were firm.

They are puffballs. The open one at least is very mature and the flesh has completely given way to spores. Cut them all open vertically. If any have white flesh, send more pictures.

Looks like a scleroderma species which is technically an earthball

Sorry none have white flesh
The three cross sections I have are cute vertically and are all the same just different stages of development

And thanks pyro
