Adderall for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Anyone take adderall to help manage autism spectrum disorder, or do you know anyone that does? I am curious about this because I think that stimulants can really help those that suffer from ASD.

Hello, I cannot help but wonder if you are curious about this subject due to personal revelations about your own spectrum? We're all on it, especially over here in America, so no worries bro. I have many traits that Autistic people have including intense bouts of Obsessive Disorder (OCD without the C), and very intense visual-spatial navigation in my brain. Adderal helps me concentrate significantly better when needing to study and also reduces my social anxiety. However, it is a stimulant and I can find the energy I get from it can cause internal anxiety. Overall not the best med for me, but it does help me navigate my intense visual field in my mind... But does not alleviate any obsessions I have, and can cause anxiety. As for people actually disabled from their Autism, I have heard in my studies that they are sometimes treated with adderal and it does indeed help with overall cognitive functioning, at least in the typical school based context that these studies took place in. The main conclusion was that adderal was helpful, but could easily could excite autistic children too easily, causing anxiety. So the balance between "therapeutic dose" and "not-therapeutic" as in not-helpful dose is much more delicate when it comes to an Autistic child, as opposed to a child with ADHD who tend to be able to handle the stimulation better (likely due to different underlying neurological mechanisms). So yes adderal can be helpful but must be treated with much more caution when given to someone with more autistic spectrum traits than ADHD traits.

Cannabis helps with my autism. I do like the heady stimulating stuff, but I do have some nice and relaxing hash.
Speed is nasty shit. I wouldn't touch it again.

Thank you for the in-depth reply JohnnyCakes.
Amphetamines don't give me anxiety, they actually make me incredibly mellow, which is why I got addicted to heroin in the past, because it sped me up big time and didn't mellow me out.
I have been prescribed adderall twice, both times I didn't abuse it because it has no potential for abuse with me, it doesn't work that way on me, it really helped me out in a huge way.
I found that taking pseudoephedrin mimicked adderall in a minor way, helped with focus, made me look people in the eye when I talked to them, was able to cope with normal stresses of life. Without something to calm my mind, I get depressed, anxious, wont eat, it's really bad. I exercise 6-7 days out of the week, eat very good food which is healthy, and have my spiritual practices to help my being, so I am not lacking in those things. I have tried being completely sober for a long period of time, and it was horrible.
So being at my age (30's) I feel like I am running out of time to figure something out to help me stay on course with my future. I am in a position now where I cannot smoke pot, otherwise I would probably do that.
There's a lot more to this story, but I don't feel comfortable sharing it all on the boards.

I did it for a while. It didnt work as good as benzos do.
I already have issues with food and sleep, and I already am hornier more times than not.
Being on adderall resulted in a lot of hungry masturbation.

I always found that meth "helped" me with my OCD.
I used it for 20 years and told friends and family that meth saved my life.
But then I realized that it was a total mind-fuck.

I knew it couldn't be a long term use drug... It is just too potent. Adderal is an amphetamine and that shit is potent on dopamine receptors and it's much more minor than meth. What ended up being the mind fuck in the end after using it for that long a time?

Huh. Doesn't sound like a mindfuck to me, sounds like you were right all along. All of us need to self-medicate in our own ways. Which is a broad conclusion to come to from your meth use but I'm having withdrawals and stoned so y'all can take it or leave it

Addiction is a mind-fuck in that the mind creates many rationalizations to use.
Intoxication occurs before we get loaded. We are drunk before we get drunk.
"We don't get drunk with our drinking. We get drunk with our thinking."

Intoxication from the fiending to get intoxicated... A very interesting quote.
What uh "substance abuse professionals" call an overactive "go switch," presumed from the nucleus accumbens and some the more "mamilia-like area" in the brain, and underactive "stop switch" in the prefrontal cortex, is the intoxication. The thinking of doing it is the intoxication... Woh! I never thought of the nucleus accumbens acting as an intoxicating thing in your own brain. How ignoranus of me... I'd imagine the ultimate inebriation is induced by psychedelics... I have not tried methamphetamine, but I have tried other stimulants, but none of them placed fear and control in my heart like psychedelics did with their great inebriation (especially shroomies trips), leaving me with a saturation of my senses that left me wanting no more. Have you found that psychedelics satisfy your want to be inebriated?

Specifically, the urge to become intoxicated is rooted in the urge to escape a part of our experience.
The desire to escape is intoxication. Long before we take a shot or a puff or snort a line.

Stimulants are not bad for OCD. They actually allow your mind to focus on what is going on in the current moment.

The way to break out of the autistic shell isn't with drugs but by learning to liberate your body, including your sexual desires. Toilet training locks autistic tendencies into the brain by generating a conflict between the body and the external social world. Being forced to wear clothes also does this. Everyone is somewhere on the autistic spectrum because of the repression that society imposes on us. Free your body and you will free your mind; rebel. Listen to music like Litzy, Lynda or Anahí (her pre-RBD albums), it helps generate the mindset you need.
If you need drugs to help you overcome your programming, I recommend taking heroic doses of marijuana, but if you've never used drugs I don't recommend starting. It creates permanent changes in the balance of neurotransmitters.

I see nobody responded to this so I will. You won't be getting prescribed any meds that will make you have more concentration or better uh performance without ADHD. At least not the dopamine enhancing ones. I guess you could get Pristiq if you have no risk for manic-depression. It's prescribed for panic attacks, social anxiety, and depression, along with some other things. It's a new SNRI and that shit gets people to a level of euphoria and confidence like no other SSRI or SNRI on the market, other than its chemical cousin Effexor. I 10/10 would recommend it if you don't give a shit about your neurotransmitters and wanna enhance your performance or whatever

There are no medications indicated by the FDA for use to treat autism spectrum disorder.
However, there is no reason that someone with ASD is excluded from having any other conditions be they medical or psyche related. Someone can be ASD and ADHD as well. In fact, it's really common.

I used to be a regular methamphetamine user, and found speed calmed me down.
Booze, weed, and Norco's also seemed to help with my cognitive struggles.
I've learned since then I don't need drugs to be at peace.
