Legal Wills are interesting
    #23595853 - 08/30/16 10:52 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So my step dad is going to die in his time but close.  My brother/twin are the oldest and we party and live within our means yet the black sheep.

My step dad hates me and I could give a shit.  I want nothing from him.  So my mom wants my brothers, five, to meet how things will be distributed which is a joke.

Who wouldn't want money, a vehicle, he earned it, give it to a charity whatever.  Watching Bloodlines syncronisticaly and that kind of wealth.  Glad I am self self sufficient and need nothing and won't sell myself for favor in my lifestyle.

Middle class family that has earned everything besides some oil leases my mom received for her own will.

My twin and I don't care about the will, best to you step dad.  Visiting on he just steams from getting that mortality is inevitable.  I take no joy in this, it is a fact a life.  He was a Dakota rancher and has that fight through anything spirit and a will that is admirable, yet it catches up to us all.  Death.  Definition the ending of the beating of the heart.

Anyone gone through strange will experiences?

I suppose I'm fortunate to not have been in anyone's
will yet, but I will say I once stumbled upon a column for
the economist or the motley fool that was all about
estate planning questions and will disputes and I
ate it up for several hours on end.

It's crazy how family behaves if there is money to fight over,
I hope you aren't too hurt by the lack of material fallout
from your stepfather. Sorry you didn't get along in the time
you had.

May you both find your peace

We understand each other.  He knows I don't give a shit about material things as I've experienced life with next to nothing and it's ok.  Just better when you are hiking.

I have a small income each month direct deposited.  Money is not an issue and he knows it.

He is just dealing with something I have dealt with which is mortality.  He is sulking about it yet live with it.

But back to the point, my mom wants my 4 brothers to get together to talk about the will and she says this in front of him.  He hates it.

Love. And I don't love him and barely respect him so why take from him?

Hopefully that shit works out better for your family than it did for mine. My great grandma was pretty well off, they used to be farmers and had plenty of land, she also had 13 kids so the house was probably pretty big (I've never seen it). When she died it started a long standing feud between her children. I don't remember if she just didn't have a will or if it wasn't specific enough but for some reason they all had to come to some sort of agreement on their own and that's where the problem lies. There is more than one of them that feel they are entitled to the vast majority of the estate for one reason or another (I'm talking like they want 75 percent and the others can split the remainder).

So yeah that shit just isn't happening and no one is backing down. This has been going on for over 15 years now. At least one of them has said in not so many words that they are willing to take the risk of never seeing a dime just to wait out some of the rest to die so they get a bigger share. I do not know how many were still alive when she passed (I know some were already dead) but quite a few of them have died already, my grandmother included. Yeah there's a really good chunk of change to be had, even split 13 ways, but it's not millions or anything. I think right before my grandma died they would all get somewhere between 15 and 50k each.

It's just ridiculous.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way.
I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today.
Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear.
I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear.

I think that is why my mother is doing this now.  And reading your post and that many people without a will.  I hate law, I hate the taxes if you don't have one, I learned that from the news when Prince died, it's a fucking mess.

But so is each of us and so is the world.  Fuck it.

Have to choose your battles.
