Hey guys...These are my first five clean (I think) agar plates. I'm pretty sure its time to transfer but being my first time with an untrained eye, not sure what I'm looking for in the mycellium. Where should i transfer from??

Well I made the transfers...was not as easy as you guys make it look lol. The pieces of agar kept sticking my tool I couldn't get them off. Used the side of the jar on a couple pieces. Hope that won't cause contams...
What should i do with all the left over myc on the old agar dishes....compost?

I dip the scapel in deep and twist. Then slide out. The twist seems to help.

Thanks for the tips guys!
Yeah I think I was just super nervous trying to make everything flow smooth and being paranoid about contamination vectors.

I have extra containers...So I will definitely be letting them pin, I can't wait to see that!

You should take two empty plates or plates you don't want, and just keep transferring from one to the other until you can do it smoothly, quickly, and cleanly.

I did my first transfers a few days ago and I had the same problem. I had one plate left over (ran out of foil) and decided to practice on it afterward.
Really should have done that first lol.
When I did my actual transfers, I made damn sure I had the piece of myc stuck to my scalpel so I wouldn't drop it. Turns out, as we learned, they stick well
After playing with my wastyplate a few minutes I figured out I can just barely stab it, just barely, then it's pretty easy to drop.
