I'm far better at identifying edibles than medicinals, but I REALLY want to get better at them. Clearly, this is a Ganoderma, but I'm not convinced it's lucidum. Does that really matter anyway, if it's a G. curtisii, for example? This is an important find for me because this photo depicts a small fragment of a VERY long fallen oak which probably has 40 - 50 mushrooms on it. I marked the spot in the woods with my GPS and can navigate back there no sweat - IF they have medicinal value.
I'm 63 years old and a big believer in the past history of medicinal use of Reishi...so if's worth going back, I can easily do so.

Thanks, guys!

This is a Stereum species. something close to S. ostrea.
It may have some medicinal value, but not much appears to be known about using this fungus as medicine:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3763174/
"This fungus has long been used for folk remedies even without any knowledge of which compounds are responsible. The ethnobotanical uses of this mushroom to heal both human and plant diseases have been accumulated but scientific evidences are not yet well known."

Bummer. Thought I'd found what I was looking for. Oh well.
Thanks for the quick ID. Gonna go back to the spot anyway soon. Beautiful, quiet area deep in the woods. Just sit and listen to the birds and wind.
