A sheet of SFD material(which is probably more like a roll hundreds of feet long) is not going to be cheap, or even available for sale. They will also probably not cut you off a couple feet from it, either. I think the point you are getting at is that you are a cheap ass. You wouldn't even buy your own iron to make your filters??? Sorry, wife of mushboy. My pre-cut filters made from a facility that makes working filters for a living perform well. Maybe skip the next bag of weed and instead buy a set of 100 filters for $50 - $60. Or have fun melting shit. Your call.

Has anybody ever told you that you're kind of dumb? Perhaps shake and bake meth might be more up your alley. Probably way cheaper to make than mushies

Because I care. Definitions from google.
manufacturer man·u·fac·tur·er ˌmanyəˈfak(t)SHərər noun a person or company that makes goods for sale.
vendor ven·dor ˈvendər,ˈvenˌdôr noun
a person or company offering something for sale.
Just because a vendor sells something, doesn't mean they make it, okay? A vendor often sells crap along with their better quality products. Why? Because people buy it. Business 101, sell things that people will buy. The purpose of a business is to generate revenue. Welcome to America. Making and or selling mushroom kits (or any product) are only scandalous if they GUARANTEE it to work. There are no guarantees in this hobby. And they might work if you followed their instructions to a T, just like any other tek on here. Buying SFD's from a VENDOR is fine, I promise. If you want to find out about SFD sheets, contact the MANUFACTURER of SFDs. Jesus...H...Christ, Pile. Stay in school, kids.

Mushboy, it appears they're made from cellulose -
https://www.amazon.com/Wide-Mouth-Cellulose-Filter-Discs/dp/B00I1I7NOE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472532147&sr=8-1&keywords=Cellulose+filter+disc
Idgaf so I'm not doing it, but a little searching/shopping around for something like "cellulose filter paper" might get you somewhere.

Mushboy, I wasn't suggesting you buy the filter in the link, just citing a source that says they're made from cellulose.

Synthetic filter discs and cellulose filter disks are two different things. By definition, cellulose is not synthetic.

I use these thick felt sheets and cut them into little squares and they work just as good as cutting up the sfd's from vendors and is waaay cheaper...

sorry I don't have any pics of just grains colonizing but the sub/grain mixture would need just as much ge as grains to colonize.
oh yeah and the best part of these is you can just melt the plastic lid around the 1/4" hole with a torch lighter and then push the felt cutout on and done. Fully sealed and fully permanent plus they don't need any time to dry and no mess of silicon.
has made making tons of lids a very simple and a very quick task.

sorry just some ibuprofen
I frorgot to mention that they should be sold at most craft stores and walmarts
Dilated has a good writeup on making the lids with that felt. I'll try to find it for ya.
Gr0wer also has as video here somewhere that shows him using the same felt and melting them on the lids.
His method is a little over the top as he uses a torched socket to make the holes and then uses the big ol' propane torch to melt the plastic to attatch the filter.
I found making the holes is very easy with a small soldering iron and melting the plastic is way easier with a little hand held butane torch gun.

what you are looking for is ez-felt
it is basically 8.5"x11" sheets of nice clean synthetic filter material. you can buy it at either of the big box craft stores.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14488446
i currently use it for everything but have actually been thinking to changing over to legit SFD, just to try to up the game a little more. i still get a contam every 10-12 jars or so, so i want to start rulling out factors....
