blue cakes, first grow, hydration questions

These cakes are very small and very disfigured because of the jars I used and how I took them out. They have since gotten extremely dark blue "runs" down the sides of the cakes. This happened when I over-sprayed them perhaps.

I am in the process of making a SGFC. I put them in a FC that was meant to be a monotub. If you're talking about the shape of the cakes, it's because I had to break them up to get them out of the jars. There was not contamination when they came out. Spraying with distilled water and fanning about three times a day.

They are really dry mate did you damage the cakes removing them and that's why they look so mad? Have you got them in a sgfc? Sit them in a bit of water to suck it up and spray and fan when needed
Edit you answer my questions as I was posting lol
The blueing is from being dry

yup...
I didn't know about SGFC. I just saw some video from the 80s on youtube where it was basically perlite in the bottom of a fish tank with cakes in it.

they do seem dry. didn't know about dunking and rolling either. I watched a very basic how-to video about growing mushrooms. I'm perfect up to time to take the cakes out of the jars and caring for them.
How do I dunk? Maybe just some distilled water in a sterile glass for about 8 hours? The roll is basically rolling them in vermiculite after a dunk, correct?
edit: read something about dunking. refrigerate container with cakes, distilled water and peroxide mix for twenty four hours. roll in vermiculite and place in the grow chamber (which will be a SGFC in a few days).

Please dont use the peroxide. You are on the right track but you must be careful because there is lots of outdated information out there.
If you are searchimg within shroomery (which I highly recommend) then just be sure to check the dates on things

Distilled water isnt necessary and also im not sure but the minerals in Normal water are probably beneficial for the mushroom growth as they are removed from distilled not sure about that so dont flame if im wrong

please tell me what to do. I just want mushrooms. they seemed dry so I've been hitting them with more water from the spray bottle and fanning.
do they need a dunk? I understand the importance of being sterile. I had no idea this was going to be so difficult.
If I was going to dunk, I could do it in Tupperware, with distilled water for twenty-four hours in the refrigerator. Then roll it in some vermiculite and put it in a SGFC.
With these cakes, I may just have to wing it. They were my first, plenty more on the way, but I would love for these to produce fruit.

First off the water for your dunk doesnt need to be sterile i mean dont hse dirty dishwater or anything but plain tap water is usually fine depending on where you live. Patience is hard but important in this hobby. Give them a 24 hour dunk and put into your SGFC

You've got past the hard bit relax mate Tap water is fine no more sterility problems now within reason they fruit in none sterile air the cakes fully colonised so should be reasonably resistant for the first flush at least. Just spray and fan when you can't see any little droplets of water on the cakes pour a little water on the foil/lid for the cakes to suck up. I don't know if dunk and roll is a good idea as they've been exposed to open air rolling them now may give contams a good microclimate to thrive Just checked your pics again your using lids so pour a bit of water in the lids then put the cakes back keep checking if they've soaked up all the water then top up till they won't soak it up then your cakes will be rehydrated oh use tap water save the distilled for something useful
