Probably couldn't hurt if you inoculated near the glass.

I inoculated the middle of the jars (mini rounds), and I assumed it would be a good idea to consolidate just wanted to make sure

The mini rounds the these Kramer cakes. Damn why didn't I think of that.
I don't think storEs sell new lids for the short fat half pints, and mine already have 4 holes.
Gonna pick up a pick of those mini rounds tomorrow and try these. Looking forward to it.

I have about 40 mini rounds laying around....so I used them instead of the wide mouth half pints.....the mini rounds only hold half a cup or so....butI figured what the hell, didn't want to go buy the wide mouth half pints

Right on.
Sorry it took me so long to reply to your post.
Yes. Pasty is dead on (as usual).
Once growth has consumed the outer edge of the substrate (sometimes i would hold a jar and watch it because you can almost see the myc moving, almost) fully, you want to give it 3-10 more days to allow for digestion (or whatever it is that occurs) of the substrate.

I've had a few I've held and watched.... so far so good 21 of 23 are finishing up colonization....the other 2 are sad looking, maybe I fucked them up by adding too much LI....I need to clean my sgfc and get shit ready to fruit, it sounds like.. I'm hoping to get an oz or two dry if that.......One more question.....how long should I dunk these cakes?? Thanks George

If you followed the tek right the cakes should already have damn near perfect water content.
Dunk them as you normally would i guess.
You could mark the water level of the container your dunking them in and after 4-6 hours if they haven't taken on any water (thirsty cakes will drink a lot) go ahead and roll them in sterilized vermiculite and place in fruiting conditions.

I probably didn't put as much verm as the tek called for....I adjusted to work with 2.5qts wbs I had already soaked 24 hours.....but my next run will be the full 3qt batch in 3-2-1 ratios just as the tek calls for.....thanks man I appreciate it

If you soaked for 24 hrs you should be golden as far as moisture content goes.
With reduced vermiculite I would fully recommend that you spawn these out to a bulk substrate. With less verm in the mix it's hard to get a good flush out of the individual cakes because it's tough to get them the water that they need.
You could rez effect style and just crumble and mix in some verm or spawn to a bulk substrate.
Cakes will still probably work, but it's going to be multiple smaller flushes likely.

I think anytime you are fruiting a 'cake' consolidation time is pretty much a necessity. Unless you want some dry ass kramer cakes. In which, kramer was always a dry-humor....nvm...
George! You're kramer cakes are taking off! I think a 12 count kramer cake grow is in order!
I'll put them in my SGFC with no holes and an air pump/ humidifier to test them out!

Really though, about to bust out the SGFC and do some kramer cakes! Millet is soaking!

I spawned 16 of my cakes to 6qts coir/verm in a 27qt mono with micropore tape over the holes......we'll see how it goes......putting a liner in for the first time was kinda a bitch, think I'll skip out on it next time
