Trich spot at bottom of nearly fully colonized tray
    #23586985 - 08/28/16 01:36 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hi all, newbie bulk grower here.
After a few failed attempts due to improper grain prep, I finally got it right and ended up with 6 colonized quart grain jars, 3 rye and 3 wbs. 2 jars lagged behind a bit, and I'm pasteurizing the sub to spawn those as well right now.

I now have 5 1200cc filter boxes which are colonizing. I followed Frank's coir/verm/gypsum prep tek + his proper pasteurization.
My first try, I used too high heat and ended up partially sterilizing it. Second time around, I got it right.
I spawned the trays at an eyeballed 1:1 ratio. I also had the idea that my sub was a bit too wet, and in retrospect my field capacity was a bit off (I now understand that you want a small stream only when you squeeze HARD, so more on the dry end of things), though they seemed to colonize pretty well nonetheless.

3 of the trays are looking around 80% colonized, the top and all of the sides of these boxes are showing solid white mycelium. On each of the boxes, I can see that some of the bottom has not yet colonized, also colonization initially went much faster than I had expected yet now seems to have slowed down to a crawl.

I noticed one of my most colonized looking trays has a green patch of contamination at the bottom, though the rest of the box looks nice and healthy.
What should I do with this? Since the contam is isolated at the bottom and surrounded by healthy myc, and I have no intentions of popping it out of the container, can I still try to fruit it, or is this a bad idea?
Should I isolate it from the other trays in a separate fruiting chamber? Do I still give it a week or so to fully colonize? Should I just toss it?

Is it normal for colonization to go this quick initially but slow down at the end? Is it normal that the bottoms of all these trays are last to colonize. Could there maybe not be enough gas exchange? I had some leftover spawn + sub and filled an ice cream tub with it, covered it in aluminum foil covered in tiny holes and it colonized in no time, bottom and all, whereas two filter boxes that I used the same sub and spawn on, and close to the same depth are not even at 40% at the moment.

What's the best course of action for the contaminated tray, and can anyone comment on the bottoms of my trays seemingly not colonizing entirely?

What did you end up doing?

What were the results?

I had a similar thing happen with a much smaller spot of trich on the bottom.
