Hello Friends
    #23586971 - 08/28/16 01:29 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I am currently at a rehab facility in delray beach Florida. I had to come here ASAP because my recent relapsed caused my health to kind of spiral out of control.

Let me start from the beginning.

In late 2013, to March 2014, I found myself severe addicted to xanax and could not get off. The physical symptoms were too much. Before I flew to Florida in April to go to detox. The worst symptom I had experienced yet was extreme nausea, gagging, and painful burping. I could hold no fluids down or any food unless I went to the hospital and got a shot of ativan and phenagen for nausea. And even towards the end that stopped working. Went to see a GI doctor before and he said nothing was wrong. I was also smoking cigarettes at the time.

Fast forward. I flew to detox, and got tapered off with valium. I also quit smoking at the same time. Idk when or how, but my symptoms stopped after that. And they also put me on a high dosage of prilosec which seemed to do the trick.

Fast forward. In feb of this year, I know most of you remember this, I got my heart broke very bad. So instead of going to get high, I just started smoking cigarettes again. 2 weeks later, I'm smoking 3 packs a day and have this really bad cough with gagging. It's like a lot of mucus and flem in my throat, Causes me to gag. Then next thing you know. I went to the hospital, was told to stop smoking. Which I did. I quit for a month and my symptoms went away. After a month I moved into a halfway house and the guy I was working for would buy me free cigarettes so again, I started smoking. I felt my symptoms coming back. They wasn't that bad. I could bare them. Then some months later, I nearly died in the hospital because of shock from an infected wisdom tooth gone bad. I started smoking again shortly after my hole was healing up. I was also taking prescription pain killers. No somewhere along the line here, something fucked up my stomach.

And then before I knew it, I started having the same stomach trouble I had when detoxing off of xanax years ago. The inability to eat. And everytime I did eat, I felt like I had to burp, but couldn't. Then I would start gagging alot until the burp came out. And sometimes I would even throw up mucus and stomach acids. The pain pills made the symptoms go away, but as soon as I started to sober up, my symptoms got so fucking bad. I've rarely been able to eat the past month and a half and been in the ER at least 5 times in the past 2 months over this. They always do my bloodwork, everything comes back normal, take images of my stomach, they find no inflammation, instead they just refer me to a GI doctor that I'm about to see this coming week.

I notice anti anxiety meds like ativan completely make the symptoms go away. I'm on nausea meds and stomach meds for this and just recently have I been able to eat food without painful gagging and burping/vomiting. I'm on prevacid, a very high dose too.

Is this anxiety or a physical issue? Maybe I have an ulcer?

What if it's much more than your drug habits? What do you regularly eat, is most of your food ACIDIC? Diet is SUCH a big thing and healthcare often overlooks it but it's not entirely their fault, most people don't log what they eat, when they eat it, and really break it down. Nor do most doctors have the time to spend hours with patients going through everything from background genetic predispositions, diet, exercise routines, and all drug use.

Some people tend to have worse anxiety when once dependent on benzos. I think it's psychological as it's often used as a way to "cope" and without the coping mechanism of taking something to get a quick dopamine rush. As opposed to naturally raising dopamine without the use of external forces. Exercise, for example. Good music, something soothing.

Definitely cut out the drugs. It seems you're alluding to taking benzos again because it "makes the symptoms go away" but you must be careful. Those things are dangerous to be addicted to, even on prescribed dosages.

When you go the ER they can do BASIC tests on you. If you've had MRIs and ultrasounds to see what's going on, endoscopes/laparascopic endeavors and the like, then keep searching. If you haven't those are options to talk to a GP about. Or a specialist. The ER is fit for quick-fixes. Ongoing issues require specialists or at least referrals to get more detailed tests done. Just saying, don't always wait until it's so unbearable when it's a repeat thing.

Get through the rehab the best you can, focus on your diet. Posture is BIG as what you're describing sounds a lot like acid reflux, something I have struggled with for some time. You see, when you slouch over even while sitting, your LES or lower esophagal sphincter opens up allowing acids up. It's called "acid burps." Acidic foods can alter stuff too. The pH of your stomach needs to be perhaps more alkaline. Too much acidity causes problems.

Best of luck friend. Sounds like acid reflux and an overindulgence of substances. Cigarettes are terrible for you. You are putting your body through constant uptake of toxins and an accumulation of them that they're constantly also trying to get rid of.

You're a good dude man, keep your head up. It'll be alright. Focus on where you're at in your recovery, watch your mind telling you psychologically it is ok to take your drug of choice because it makes the symptoms go away and see that part of the diseased mind manifesting right before your eyes.

Just for today man, your name says it all. Just for today.
